Some Experimental Investigation On Effect Of Light And Vibration On Nano Coated Piezo For Energy Harvesting, Abhay Sharma Jan 2015

Some Experimental Investigation On Effect Of Light And Vibration On Nano Coated Piezo For Energy Harvesting, Abhay Sharma

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

PZT is a promising piezoelectric ceramic material which has a wide range of applications in a variety of fields such as acoustic sensors and transducers, electrical switches, medical instrumentation, artificial sensitive skin in robotics, automotive detection on roads, nondestructive testing , structural health monitoring and as a biocompatible material. In this research a cantilever based multi energy harvester was developed to maximize the power output of PZT sensor. Nano mixtures containing graphene, ferrofluid nanoparticle (FNP) and ZnO nano particles were used to enhance the piezoelectric and photovoltaic output of the sensor. The samples were tested under different energy conditions to …

Temperature Dependence Of Shear Speed In Micellar Fluid, E.G. Sunethra Kumari Dayavansha Jan 2015

Temperature Dependence Of Shear Speed In Micellar Fluid, E.G. Sunethra Kumari Dayavansha

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Wormlike micellar (WM) fluids are viscoelastic and can support shear waves. Phase transitions of the micellar aggregates are temperature dependent and can manifest as sharp changes in the shear wave speed as a function of temperature. Thus, shear waves provide a good tool for detecting the existence of phase transitions. In this work, the variation of shear speed with temperature of 200mM CTAB/NaSal micellar fluid in a 5:3 ratio was studied. The dependence of shear wave speed on time between fluid synthesis and measurement was also investigated. Shear wave propagation through the fluid was observed as a time varying birefringence …

Fiber Compaction And Wetout In Tapered Resin Injection Pultrusion Manufacturing, Naveen Babu Masuram Jan 2015

Fiber Compaction And Wetout In Tapered Resin Injection Pultrusion Manufacturing, Naveen Babu Masuram

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Pultrusion is a continuous process for manufacturing composite materials with constant cross section. Reinforced fibers are pulled through a resin, possibly folloby a separate injection chamber preforming system, and into a heated die, where the resin undergoes complete wetout. Thus the required pultruded composite is obtained in the desired profile. The main objective of this research is to present a numerical model employing the finite volume technique to simulate the resin flow in a tapered injection chamber through the fiber reinforcement when compaction of the fiber reinforcement is taken into account. The numerical model predicts the impact of design and …

Dynamic Response Of Glass Under Low-Velocity Impact And High Strain-Rate Compression Loading, Seyed Soheil Daryadel Jan 2015

Dynamic Response Of Glass Under Low-Velocity Impact And High Strain-Rate Compression Loading, Seyed Soheil Daryadel

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In this research, the dynamic response and energy absorption characteristics of four different types of commercially available glass have been investigated experimentally. Soda Lime, Starphire, Borosilicate, and Fused Silica were characterized using a Dynatup 8250 drop weight impact test system, and a modified Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB). In the low-velocity punch-shear experiment, similar trend has been observed for all glass types, and Starphire and Borosilicate demonstrated the highest total energy absorption. High strain-rate SHPB compression tests were carried out on cylindrical glass samples at two different strain-rates. Borosilicate shohigher compressive strength and energy absorption in comparison to the other …

We All Go Home! The Evolution Of Firefighter Accountability Systems, Jeremy Roy Jan 2015

We All Go Home! The Evolution Of Firefighter Accountability Systems, Jeremy Roy

Honors Theses

Accountability is arguably the single most important tool that a fire department has at its disposal. Although accountability systems have been used throughout history, one thing is proven: when there is no accountability system in place, it is only a matter of time before firefighters will get injured, or worse, lose their lives. This work will discuss the history of fire department methodology dealing with the creation of incident management accountability systems. In order to provide historical evidence that lack of an accountability system can cause injury or death, case studies of multiple fire departments that have reported line of …

A Stroke Of Shear Genius: The Development Of The Blade Bandit, Abdulrahman Hamid Jan 2015

A Stroke Of Shear Genius: The Development Of The Blade Bandit, Abdulrahman Hamid

Honors Theses

This thesis will document and analyze the experience of two members of the Shear Genius team, Mr. Abdulrahman Hamid and Mr. Colin Wattigney, as they worked to complete the CME Senior Capstone Project. This team, under the leadership of CEO Ethan Veazey, developed the Blade Bandit, a lawn mower blade sharpening system conceptualized by Mr. Jacob Moorhead. Ms. Kristen Gaddis, Mr. Nick Rocco, and Ms. Allie Winters were also members of Shear Genius. The team members had educational backgrounds in the realms of engineering, business and accountancy. The combination of these disciplines allowed for the simulation of a real business …
