Utilization Of Fly Ash From Power Plant For Adsorption Of Hydrocarbon Contamination In Water, J Sasithorn, D Wiwattanadate, S Sangsuk

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

Adsorption efficiency of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) contamination in water with rice husk fly ash from a power plant was investigated in comparison with coal fly ash and silica from rice husk fly ash, with and without surface treatment. Naphthalene was used as a representative for PAHs, and Cethyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) was used as surface treating agent for the present study. Various factors, such as shaking rate, shaking time, pH of naphthalene aqueous solution, and adsorbentnaphthalene weight ratio, were investigated to identify the optimum condition for each adsorbent. Upon using 0.3 g adsorbent in 100 ml of 10 mg/l naphthalene solution, …

Molecular Simulations Of Adsorption And Diffusion In Metal-Organic Frameworks (Mofs), Ruichang Xiong May 2010

Molecular Simulations Of Adsorption And Diffusion In Metal-Organic Frameworks (Mofs), Ruichang Xiong

Doctoral Dissertations

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new class of nanoporous materials that have received great interest since they were first synthesized in the late 1990s. Practical applications of MOFs are continuously being discovered as a better understanding of the properties of materials adsorbed within the nanopores of MOFs emerges. One such potential application is as a component of an explosive-sensing system. Another potential application is for hydrogen storage.

This work is focused on tailoring MOFs to adsorb/desorb the explosive, RDX. Classical grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) and molecular dynamic (MD) simulations have been performed to calculate adsorption isotherms and self-diffusivities of …

A Simple Technique For Surface Area Determination Through Supercritical Co2 Adsorption, Mahmud Sudibandriyo Apr 2010

A Simple Technique For Surface Area Determination Through Supercritical Co2 Adsorption, Mahmud Sudibandriyo

Makara Journal of Technology

The measurement of specific surface area of porous materials has long been important in physical sciences and is currently growing in importance in applied and environmental science. Numerous systems have been developed for surface area measurement by gas adsorption. Commercial systems are available which can measure a wide range of absolute surface area with relative ease. However, their cost is often prohibitive. In this study, an inexpensive apparatus for surface area measurement has been set up to be used for measuring supercritical adsorption of CO2. The Ono-Kondo Lattice model was used to represent the adsorption isotherm and to determine the …
