Managing Communication In New Product Development Process: Virtual R&D Teams And Information Technology, Nader Ale Ebrahim, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Salwa Hanim Abdul Rashid, Zahari Taha

Nader Ale Ebrahim

Literature proves the importance of the role of information technology in increasing the effectiveness of virtual R&D teams’ communication for new product development. However, the factors that make information technology construct in a virtual R&D team are still ambiguous. Managers of virtual R&D teams for new product development do not know “which type of technology should be used”. To address the gap and answer the question, the paper presents a set of factors that make a construct that contribute to effective communication strategy for virtual R&D teams. The proposed construct has been modified based on the findings of a field …

Virtual Collaborative R&D Teams In Malaysia Manufacturing Smes, Nader Ale Ebrahim, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Salwa Hanim Abdul Rashid, Zahari Taha Feb 2011

Virtual Collaborative R&D Teams In Malaysia Manufacturing Smes, Nader Ale Ebrahim, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Salwa Hanim Abdul Rashid, Zahari Taha

This paper presents the results of empirical research conducted during March to September 2009. The study focused on the influence of virtual research and development (R&D) teams within Malaysian manufacturing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The specific objective of the study is better understanding of the application of collaborative technologies in business, to find the effective factors to assist SMEs to remain competitive in the future. The paper stresses to find an answer for a question “Is there any relationship between company size, Internet connection facility and virtuality?”. The survey data shows SMEs are now technologically capable of performing …

Electronic Collaboration And Project Management To Develop A Conceptual Model, Marjan Mohammadjafari Dr, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Siti Zawiah Md, Hadi Zayandehroodi Jan 2011

Electronic Collaboration And Project Management To Develop A Conceptual Model, Marjan Mohammadjafari Dr, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Siti Zawiah Md, Hadi Zayandehroodi

The use of electronic collaboration (E-collaboration) technologies is important for supporting distributed projects. E-collaboration has the potential of networking and collaborative technologies to support the project management teams in the creation of shared understanding. E-collaboration fosters new kinds of collective work made possible with advanced collaboration technologies. On the other hand, project management has been considered as an academic field for planning, organizing, controlling to producing products with predictable cost, time and quality and, in other applications of engineering requirements. A conceptual relationship between project management and E-collaboration can play a vital role in addressing many problems among the participating …

A Review Of Literature On Reducing Time And Cost Of New Product In Smes Through Project Management By E-Collaboration, Marjan Mohammadjafari Dr, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Siti Zawiah Md, Hadi Zayandehroodi Jan 2011

A Review Of Literature On Reducing Time And Cost Of New Product In Smes Through Project Management By E-Collaboration, Marjan Mohammadjafari Dr, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Siti Zawiah Md, Hadi Zayandehroodi

Efficient project execution is an objective in many industries, and existing project management research gives direction about how project team factors influence two important capital project outcomes: time and cost. In addition, use of electronic collaboration (E-collaboration) technologies is essential for supporting projects. Combining a literature review with our empirical experience, we constructed a theoretically based, four-dimensional model of department of design, department of planning, department of production and department of procurement. One major practical implication of our findings is that relationship between project manager and four noted departments by E-collaboration is vital for reduce time and cost in small …

A Theoretical Research Framework For Sharing Knowledge Through E-Collaboration, Marjan Mohammadjafari Dr, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Siti Zawiah Md, Hadi Zayandehroodi Jan 2011

A Theoretical Research Framework For Sharing Knowledge Through E-Collaboration, Marjan Mohammadjafari Dr, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Siti Zawiah Md, Hadi Zayandehroodi

In the backdrop of rapid changing of product features and varieties, on-time data and information exchange between the departments of a manufacturing company has become inevitable. In case of large or multi-national companies (MNCs), information exchange between the geographically dispersed units might be time consuming, less effective, and in turns more costly than expected. Such environments need to use the modern offers. Electronic collaboration (E-collaboration) offers quick and less costly approach. E-collaboration is a means for sharing knowledge data, and information between different departments within a company or ease reaching out to other companies as well. E-collaboration can create a …
