Transportation And Distribution Of Strategic National Stockpile Supplies In A Public Health Emergency, Olivia A. Goss May 2018

Transportation And Distribution Of Strategic National Stockpile Supplies In A Public Health Emergency, Olivia A. Goss

Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

In the event of a public health emergency in the United States, it is important that public

authorities are equipped to distribute medical supplies to every person in need as quickly as

possible. Federal guidelines state that all persons in an area affected by a public health

emergency should receive their medical countermeasures within 48 hours of the emergency’s

declaration. While the CDC has determined a general dispensing plan for each state and county

to follow, it is ultimately up to the state and county to formalize and implement detailed plans.

A body of academic literature focuses on optimizing the …

An Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search Heuristic For The Inventory Routing Problem With Time Windows, Mina Hadianniasar Jul 2015

An Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search Heuristic For The Inventory Routing Problem With Time Windows, Mina Hadianniasar

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This research addresses an integrated distribution and inventory control problem which is faced by a large retail chain in the United States. In their current distribution network, a direct shipping policy is used to keep stores stocked with products. The shipping policy specifies that a dedicated trailer should be sent from the warehouse to a store when the trailer is full or after five business days, whichever comes first. Stores can only receive deliveries during a window of time (6 am to 6 pm). The retail chain is seeking more efficient alternatives to this policy, as measured by total transportation, …

An Investigation Into The Analysis Of Truncated Standard Normal Distributions Using Heuristic Techniques, John Walter Ralls Apr 2014

An Investigation Into The Analysis Of Truncated Standard Normal Distributions Using Heuristic Techniques, John Walter Ralls

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Standard normal distributions (SND) and truncated standard normal distributions (TSND) have been widely used and accepted methods to characterize the data sets in various engineering disciplines, financial industries, medical fields, management, and other mathematic and scientific applications. For engineering managers, risk managers and quality practitioners, the use of the standard normal distribution and truncated standard normal distribution have particular relevance when bounding data sets, evaluating manufacturing and assembly tolerances, and identifying measures of quality. In particular, truncated standard normal distributions are used in areas such as component assemblies to bound upper and lower process specification limits.

This dissertation presents a …

The Analysis Of Electure Creation & Distribution Systems At Cal Poly, Jason Carian Jun 2011

The Analysis Of Electure Creation & Distribution Systems At Cal Poly, Jason Carian

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

This report details the analysis of potential eLecture creation and distributions for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Specifically, this project will focus on a system for the College of Engineering. This project was completed using the Systems Engineering process and concentrated more specifically on the Systems Evaluation phase, in which the specifics for potential system solutions are discussed. The first step was to define the problem that must be addressed; Cal Poly currently uses eLectures in the classroom, but with the wide variety of eLecture creator and distribution alternatives available, there is no optimal system at the University. The next …
