Energy Efficient Led Displays, John Mani Kumar Jupalli
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
In this research work, an innovative pixel architecture RGBW, consisting of red (R), green (G), blue (B), and white (W) LEDs, is designed and implemented for color generation. Energy consumption of new pixel architecture consisting of RGBW LEDs is compared to standard architecture consisting of RGB LEDs. Human perception experiments are conducted to study the differences in perception between the two architectures when the same colors are generated using RGBW vs. RGB. Measurements of power for a 32inch x 16inch LED display has proved up to 18% power savings for low saturated colors, up to 8% for high saturated colors …

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The dissertation describes the formation of porous silicon through the pores of porous alumina on a silicon substrate. Porous silicon, by itself, is inherently a non-uniform material that has non-uniform optical and electronic properties. In addition, it is also mechanically fragile material requiring careful material handling. The porous silicon fabricated through the nanosized pores of porous alumina are expected to mitigate these problems, thereby enhancing commercial viability of the device. The porous silicon as well the porous alumina have been synthesized through anodisation for various parameters and also various types of anodizing electrolytes. The porous silicon, so obtained have been …

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The rhizosphere, i.e. the zone of soil immediately surrounding plant roots plays a prominent role in supplying plants with water and nutrients. However, surprisingly little is known about rhizosphere physical properties and how they affect root growth, water and nutrient uptake. The lack of non-invasive and non-destructive imaging techniques necessary to observe living roots growing in undisturbed soil have been a main reason for this shortcoming. Recent advances in synchrotron X-ray micro tomography (CMT) provide the potential to directly observe soil physical properties around living roots in-situ.In this work we develop procedures for assisting scientist to study the soil properties …
Flow Rate Measurement In A High Temperature, Radioactive, And Corrosive Environment, Taleb Moazzeni
Flow Rate Measurement In A High Temperature, Radioactive, And Corrosive Environment, Taleb Moazzeni
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Accurate measurement of coolant flow rate is essential for determining the maximum power required by the nuclear plant operation and critical for monitoring its operation safety. However, no practical off-the-shelf flowmeter is available to satisfy all the pressing multidimensional operation requirements (i. e., high temperature, high irradiation, and high corrosion). This work thus deals with the development of a new flowmeter for nuclear power plant/reactor process-monitoring and real time analysis; this proposed flowmeter shall be able to continuously conduct robust measurements under extremely harsh environment with high irradiation, high pressure, high temperature and corrosive media. We investigate a transit-time based …
