Smart Inverter Control And Operation For Distributed Energy Resources, Ahmad F. Tazay Oct 2017

Smart Inverter Control And Operation For Distributed Energy Resources, Ahmad F. Tazay

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The motivation of this research is to carry out the control and operation of smart inverters and voltage source converters (VSC) for distributed energy resources (DERs) such as photovoltaic (PV), battery, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). The main contribution of the research includes solving a couple of issues for smart grids by controlling and implementing multifunctions of VSC and smart inverter as well as improving the operational scheme of the microgrid. The work is mainly focused on controlling and operating of smart inverter since it promises a new technology for the future microgrid. Two major applications of the smart …

Dynamic Phasor Based Analysis And Control In Renewable Energy Integration, Lakshan Prageeth Piyasinghe Nov 2015

Dynamic Phasor Based Analysis And Control In Renewable Energy Integration, Lakshan Prageeth Piyasinghe

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The objective of this dissertation is to carry out dynamic modeling, analysis and control of power systems with Renewable Energy Sources (RES) such as: Photovoltaic (PV) power sources and wind farms. The dissertation work is mainly focused on microgrid since it plays a major role in modern power systems and tend to have higher renewable power penetration. Two main theoretical concepts, dynamic phasor and impedance modeling have been adopted to model and analyze the power systems/mocrogrids with RES. The initial state calculation which is essential for small signal analysis of a system is carried out as the first step of …

Smart Grid Reliability Assessment Under Variable Weather Conditions, Arif Islam Mar 2009

Smart Grid Reliability Assessment Under Variable Weather Conditions, Arif Islam

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The needs of contemporary electric utility customers and expectations regarding energy supply require dramatic changes in the way energy is transmitted and delivered. A smart grid is a concept by which the existing and aging electrical grid infrastructure is being upgraded with integration of multiple applications and technologies; such as two way power transfer, two way communication, renewable distributed generation, automated sensors, automated & advanced controls, central control, forecasting system and microgrids. This enables the grid to be more secure, reliable, efficient, self-healing, while reducing greenhouse gases. In addition, it will provide new products & services and fully optimize asset …
