From this, a worth of hydro value is computed for each month, which may be used in the daily dispatching of thermal units and hydro. Applications of the program are also shown for aiding in generator maintenance scheduling and evaluating purchase power contracts with neighboring utilities. Error analysis is made …

A Method For Generating Uts Assignments With An Iterative State Transition Algorithm, Dattatraya Govind Raj-Karne Jan 1972

A Method For Generating Uts Assignments With An Iterative State Transition Algorithm, Dattatraya Govind Raj-Karne

Doctoral Dissertations

"There is a lack of systematic procedures that can be used to find uni-code totally sequential (UTS) assignments from a flow table description of an asynchronous sequential circuit. Presented here is an iterative internal state assignment method. This method consists of three algorithms. The first generates a minimum variable initial assignment from a flow table description. The second tests the validity of this assignment by constructing minimum length transition paths without crossover and the third augments this assignment by adding an internal state variable in the event that all transition paths cannot be constructed without crossover. The second and the …

A Learning Receiver For Communication In Three-Component Multipath Channels, Richard Paul Brueggemann Jan 1972

A Learning Receiver For Communication In Three-Component Multipath Channels, Richard Paul Brueggemann

Doctoral Dissertations

"An adaptive receiver is designed for transmissions through a time-varying multipath channel which may include both specular and diffuse components. The design is based on the theory of unsupervised learning machines and the receiver is a recursive structure which does not grow in complexity with each new observation, but is Bayes' optimal at each instant of time. The multipath medium is modelled as an aggregate of L conditionally independent transmission paths, each consisting of random and/or fixed reflections, and is identified in terms of three components: (1) indirect diffuse scatter, (2) indirect specular reflection, and (3) direct transmission. The channel …

Secondary Techniques For Increasing Fault Coverage Of Fault Detection Test Sequences For Asynchronous Sequential Networks, Lewis Ronald Hoover Jan 1972

Secondary Techniques For Increasing Fault Coverage Of Fault Detection Test Sequences For Asynchronous Sequential Networks, Lewis Ronald Hoover

Doctoral Dissertations

"The generation of fault detection sequences for asynchronous sequential networks is considered here. Several techniques exist for the generation of fault detection sequences on combinational and clocked sequential networks. Although these techniques provide closed solutions for combinational and clocked networks, they meet with much less success when used as strategies on asynchronous networks. It is presently assumed that the general asynchronous problem defies closed solution. For this reason, a secondary procedure is presented here to facilitate increased fault coverage by a given fault detection test sequence. This procedure is successful on all types of logic networks but is, perhaps, most …

Decimal-Base Binary Logic (Dbbl) Adders And Registers, James Oliver Bondi Jan 1972

Decimal-Base Binary Logic (Dbbl) Adders And Registers, James Oliver Bondi

Masters Theses

"This paper discusses a new type of base n adder and storage register. This new type of logic is called "n-base binary logic", or NBBL. The NBBL system is compared and contrasted with the Post base n system (a type of n-valued logic), the binary-coded base n system, and the straight binary system. The main purpose of this paper is to show that a decimal, or base 10, system can have some important inherent advantages over a binary system, such as greater daily operational efficiency. Furthermore, it is shown that a "decimal-base binary logic" system, or DBBL system, has inherent …

A Study Of Fmfb Demodulator Operation In The Presence Of Radio Frequency Interference And Gaussian Noise, Terry D. Wormington

Masters Theses

"A digital computer model of an FMFB demodulator has been used to study the effects of radio frequency interference on the detection of a sinusoidally modulated carrier. The effectiveness of selecting the feedback factor to suppress the interference for three values of modulation index is investigated. Also, the required IF bandwidth for the minimization of the mean-square error of the loop output between a signal corrupted by interference and the same signal without interference was investigated. More work is required before the effects of Gaussian noise plus interference on loop operation can be ascertained"--Abstract, page ii.

Performance Of Self Bit Synchronizers For Binary Overlapping Signals, Chung-Tao David Wang Jan 1972

Performance Of Self Bit Synchronizers For Binary Overlapping Signals, Chung-Tao David Wang

Doctoral Dissertations

"This research is concerned with the optimum and suboptimum ways of providing self bit synchronization for binary overlapping signals. A maximum likelihood synchronizer is derived as the optimum approach. The suboptimum ways are those employing decision-directed feedback and matched derivative filter techniques which are proposed for treating the overlapping signals. Combining the two suboptimum techniques along with the bandlimited version of the overlapping signal, a suboptimum synchronizer is derived. The performance of the above synchronizer is evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation techniques. Finally, a bit synchronizer using nonlinear filtering theory is considered. The performance of a nonlinear bit synchronizer is …

The Effect And Compensation Of Time-Base Perturbations In Analog Recording Systems, Clifford D. Skouby Jan 1972

The Effect And Compensation Of Time-Base Perturbations In Analog Recording Systems, Clifford D. Skouby

Doctoral Dissertations

"The mean square error between recorded and reproduced signals is used as an error measure to determine the effects of time-base perturbations on an analog singal. The mean square error caused by time-base perturbations is shown to be proportional to the product of the square of the signal bandwidth and the time-base error variance for the case of low pass signal. When the signal is band pass, there is shown to be an additional error term which is proportional to the square of the signal center frequency and the time-base error variance.

Calculations are also carried out to determine the …

An Accurate Digital Instrument To Measure Reactor Period, Ernest Wayne Scott Jan 1972

An Accurate Digital Instrument To Measure Reactor Period, Ernest Wayne Scott

Masters Theses

"At facilities having a research-training reactor, such as the University of Missouri-Rolla Reactor (UMRR), one finds it necessary to perform a large number of rod calibrations during the course of the year. In practice rod worths are determined by measuring the reactor period created by an incremental withdrawal of the rod under calibration. Period is then related to reactivity thru the use of a publication such as the AEC publication, TID-4500.

This frequent measurement of period makes it desirable to have a simple, automatic and accurate method to make such measurements. At UMRR we have designed, constructed and installed such …

Analysis And Measurement Of A Zener Diode Voltage-Reference, Armond C. Maxeiner Jan 1972

Analysis And Measurement Of A Zener Diode Voltage-Reference, Armond C. Maxeiner

Masters Theses

"Output voltage sensitivity equations are derived for a zener voltage-reference circuit. The circuit consists of a DC-DC converter, a voltage-resistor current generator, and a zener diode. The performance of the voltage-reference is calculated using the sensitivity equations and compared to measurement data taken from a laboratory model of the circuit. The results are in reasonable agreement.

It was concluded that with careful selection of components, two of three major sources of error can be predicted and controlled; these are changes due to input voltage and changes due to temperature. The third, changes due to time, requires calibration against a voltage …

Digital Registration Of Stereo Images Using The Fast Fourier Transform, Victor Francis Wilreker Jr. Jan 1972

Digital Registration Of Stereo Images Using The Fast Fourier Transform, Victor Francis Wilreker Jr.

Masters Theses

"The exact alignment of multispectral imagery is a requirement of any image classification system. This investigation develops a system of programs which result in a technique that corrects for the translational and rotational misalignment of two images. Rotational and translational components are determined by using the fast Fourier transform to find the points of maximum correlation between the two images. The registration of two equal but misaligned boxes is given as an example of how the transform technique is used in correlating the images. The results of registering two digitized images that were obtained by scanning a pair of color …

Design And Analysis Of A Phase-Locked Loop Suitable For Synchronization Of An Optical Receiver, Douglas Wayne Dreisewerd Jan 1972

Design And Analysis Of A Phase-Locked Loop Suitable For Synchronization Of An Optical Receiver, Douglas Wayne Dreisewerd

Masters Theses

"The required synchronization of a dynamic crossed-field photomultiplier tube (DCFP) is accomplished by means of a phase-locked loop for which the salient feature is the use of the DCFP as the phase detector. This action is necessitated due to the unique sampling and phase focusing type of operation of the DCFP. The phase-locked loop is implemented by dithering the phase of the synchronizing RF drive signal, bandpass filtering the output pulses of the DCFP and using a synchronous detector at the dither frequency to determine the phase relationship between the incoming mode-locked laser pulses and the RF drive signal. The …
