Considerations On Direct Balancing Of Ultra-High Power Ac Arc Furnaces In Uneasy State, Ikenna Louis Ezeonwumelu
LSU Master's Theses
During the operation of ultra-high-power ac arc furnace the negative effects of unbalance mostly occur in the secondary terminals of the transformer connected to the load. Hence balancing and compensating the furnace at this terminal will not only improve the transformer efficiency but also reduce energy losses that do occur. In this thesis a computer modeling of a reference ac arc furnace in both balanced and unbalanced states were simulated, and the effects of a reactive balancing compensator installed on the secondary side of the furnace transformer was evaluated to see how much delivered energy improvement can be obtained. The …
Powers And Compensation In Three-Phase Systems With Nonsinusoidal And Asymmetrical Voltages And Currents, Prashanna Dev Bhattarai
Powers And Compensation In Three-Phase Systems With Nonsinusoidal And Asymmetrical Voltages And Currents, Prashanna Dev Bhattarai
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
A contribution to power theory development of three-phase three-wire systems with asymmetrical and nonsinusoidal supply voltages is presented in this dissertation. It includes: • contribution to explanation of power related phenomena • contribution to methods of compensation The power equation of unbalanced Linear Time Invariant (LTI) loads at sinusoidal but asymmetrical voltage is first presented. The different current components of such a load and the phenomenon associated with these current components are described. The load current decomposition is used for the design of reactive balancing compensators for power factor improvement. Next, the current of LTI loads operating at nonsinusoidal asymmetrical …
Assymmetry In Distribution Systems: Causes, Harmful Effects And Remedies, Isaac Plummer
Assymmetry In Distribution Systems: Causes, Harmful Effects And Remedies, Isaac Plummer
LSU Master's Theses
ABSTRACT: Current and voltage asymmetry denigrates the power system performance. The current asymmetry reduces efficiency, productivity and profits at the generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy. Voltage asymmetry reduces efficiency, productivity and profits at the consumption/utilization level. There are a lot of conference and journal papers on the subject of voltage and current asymmetry, however, the information is scattered over a large number of journals and conferences and published over several years. Therefore, the thesis provides a comprehensive compilation of all possible published information on current and voltage asymmetry in the electrical power systems. Published information on sources of …
