Optimal And Secure Electricity Market Framework For Market Operation Of Multi-Microgrid Systems, Mohammad Mahmoudian Esfahani
Optimal And Secure Electricity Market Framework For Market Operation Of Multi-Microgrid Systems, Mohammad Mahmoudian Esfahani
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Traditional power systems were typically based on bulk energy services by large utility companies. However, microgrids and distributed generations have changed the structure of modern power systems as well as electricity markets. Therefore, restructured electricity markets are needed to address energy transactions in modern power systems.
In this dissertation, we developed a hierarchical and decentralized electricity market framework for multi-microgrid systems, which clears energy transactions through three market levels; Day-Ahead-Market (DAM), Hour-Ahead-Market (HAM) and Real-Time-Market (RTM). In this market, energy trades are possible between all participants within the microgrids as well as inter-microgrids transactions. In this approach, we developed a …
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Uavs) For Integrated Access And Backhaul (Iab) Communications In Wireless Cellular Networks, Abdurrahman Fouda
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Uavs) For Integrated Access And Backhaul (Iab) Communications In Wireless Cellular Networks, Abdurrahman Fouda
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
An integrated access and backhaul (IAB) network architecture can enable flexible and fast deployment of next-generation cellular networks. However, mutual interference between access and backhaul links, small inter-site distance and spatial dynamics of user distribution pose major challenges in the practical deployment of IAB networks. To tackle these problems, we leverage the flying capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as hovering IAB-nodes and propose an interference management algorithm to maximize the overall sum rate of the IAB network. In particular, we jointly optimize the user and base station associations, the downlink power allocations for access and backhaul transmissions, and the …
Control And Optimization Of Energy Storage In Ac And Dc Power Grids, Samy Mohamed
Control And Optimization Of Energy Storage In Ac And Dc Power Grids, Samy Mohamed
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Energy storage attracts attention nowadays due to the critical role it will play in the power generation and transportation sectors. Electric vehicles, as moving energy storage, are going to play a key role in the terrestrial transportation sector and help reduce greenhouse emissions. Bulk hybrid energy storage will play another critical role for feeding the new types of pulsed loads on ship power systems. However, to ensure the successful adoption of energy storage, there is a need to control and optimize the charging/discharging process, taking into consideration the customer preferences and the technical aspects. In this dissertation, novel control and …
Fully Decentralized Multi-Agent System For Optimal Microgrid Control, Ricardo De Azevedo
Fully Decentralized Multi-Agent System For Optimal Microgrid Control, Ricardo De Azevedo
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In preparation for the influx of renewable energy sources that will be added to the electrical system, flexible and adaptable control schemes are necessary to accommodate the changing infrastructure. Microgrids have been gaining much attention as the main solution to the challenges of distributed and intermittent generation, but due to their low inertia, they need fast-acting control systems in order to maintain stability. Multi-Agent Systems have been proposed as dynamic control and communication frameworks. Decentralized arrangements of agents can provide resiliency and the much-desired “plug and play” behavior. This thesis describes a control system that implements droop control and the …
Wireless Sensor Network Deployment, Yipeng Qu
Wireless Sensor Network Deployment, Yipeng Qu
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely used for various civilian and military applications, and thus have attracted significant interest in recent years. This work investigates the important problem of optimal deployment of WSNs in terms of coverage and energy consumption. Five deployment algorithms are developed for maximal sensing range and minimal energy consumption in order to provide optimal sensing coverage and maximum lifetime. Also, all developed algorithms include self-healing capabilities in order to restore the operation of WSNs after a number of nodes have become inoperative.
Two centralized optimization algorithms are developed, one based on Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and one …
