Since the ratification of the Agile Manifesto in 2001, agile methods such as Scrum and XP have become mainstream and proved their ability to shorten the software development lifecycle, raise quality and reduce costs. Hence the question: Is agile a "silver bullet" that can conquer the inherent complexity of software development? Based on current trends in the software industry, the answer to this question is "not quite". Given the vast spectrum of software development endeavors, one size does not fit all.
