A New Hybrid Gravitational Search-Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization Methodfor The Solution Of Economic Dispatch Of Power Systems, Mehmet Fati̇h Tefek, Harun Uğuz

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The economic dispatch problem (EDP) is a complex, constrained, and nonlinear optimization problem. In the EDP, the active power bus should operate between the minimum and maximum bus limits to minimize the fuel cost. In this study, a fast, efficient, and reliable hybrid gravitational search algorithm-teaching learning based optimization (GSA-TLBO) method was proposed for the purpose of solving the EDP in power systems. The proposed method separates the search space into two sections as global and local searching. In the first part, searching was carried out by GSA method effectively to form the second search space. In the second part, …

A Modified Gravitational Search Algorithm And Its Application In Lifetime Maximization Of Wireless Sensor Networks, Sepehr Ebrahimi Mood, Mohammad Masoud Javidi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Recently, academic communities and industrial sectors have been affected by significant advancements in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Employing clustering methods is the dominant method to maximize the WSN's lifetime, which is considered to be a major issue. Metaheuristic algorithms have attracted wide attention in the research area of clustering. In this paper, first a novel nature-inspired optimization algorithm based on the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is defined. To control the exploitation and exploration capabilities of this algorithm, along with calculating the masses value, the tournament selection method is employed. Tournament size, the parameter of this method, is computed automatically using …

Optimal Rescheduling Of Real Power To Mitigate Congestion Using Gravitational Search Algorithm, Kaushik Paul, Niranjan Kumar, Shaligram Agrawal, Kamalendu Paul

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The initiative to manage congestion has gained interest in the current deregulated scenario. The principle commitment of the work in this article is to extend the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) as an efficient metaheuristic optimizing algorithm to diminish the rescheduling cost and efficiently attenuate the overloading of the line with the minimal deviation in the active power generation. The congestion management drive is accomplished by prioritizing the generators based on their sensitivity values. Thereafter, the GSA is introduced to optimally minimize the rescheduling cost along with the minimization of the total amount of active power output and system losses. The …

A Novel Hybrid Approach Based On A Chaotic Cloud Gravitational Search Algorithm To Complicated Image Template Matching, Weijia Cui, Yuzhu He Jan 2017

A Novel Hybrid Approach Based On A Chaotic Cloud Gravitational Search Algorithm To Complicated Image Template Matching, Weijia Cui, Yuzhu He

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Template matching is the process of accurately extracting the interesting regions in a source image according to reference templates. In this paper, the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is employed as a novel search strategy for template matching. However, the basic GSA is easily trapped in a local optimum and has a poor exploitation ability. In this paper, to enhance the optimization performance of GSA, a novel cross-search strategy based on chaotic global search (CGS) and cloud local search (CLS) is incorporated into GSA. The new variant is named chaotic cloud GSA (CCGSA). CGS makes full use of the ergodicity of …

A Clustering Approach Using A Combination Of Gravitational Search Algorithm And K-Harmonic Means And Its Application In Text Document Clustering, Mina Mirhosseini Jan 2017

A Clustering Approach Using A Combination Of Gravitational Search Algorithm And K-Harmonic Means And Its Application In Text Document Clustering, Mina Mirhosseini

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Data clustering is one of the most popular techniques of information management, which is used in many applications of science and engineering such as machine learning, pattern reorganization, image processing, data mining, and web mining. Different algorithms have been suggested by researchers, where the evolutionary algorithms are the best in data clustering and especially in big datasets. It is illustrated that GSA-KM, which is a combination of the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) and K-means (KM), is superior over some other comparative evolutionary methods. One of the drawbacks of this approach is dependency on the initial seeds. In this paper, a …

modeling and a rotor field-oriented control (RFOC) system for controlling a faulty three-phase induction motor (three-phase IM when one of the phases is disconnected). In the adapted scheme for controlling the faulty IM, it is necessary for the PI controller coefficients to change. For this purpose, the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) is used for tuning of PI controllers. The results show the strength and ability of the technique to improve the performance of the faulty IM control.

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

proportional-integral-derivate (PID) controller for an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system using a heuristic gravitational search algorithm (GSA) based on mass interactions and Newton's law of gravity. The determination of optimal controller parameters is considered an optimization problem in which different performance indexes and a performance criterion in the time domain have been used as objective functions to test the performance and effectiveness of the GSA. In the determining process of the parameters, the designed PID controller with the proposed approach is simulated under different conditions and the performance of the controller is compared with those reported in the literature. From …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Dynamic economic dispatch (DED) is an important problem in power system generation, operation, planning, and control. The objective of the DED problem is to schedule power generation for the online units over a time horizon, satisfying the unit and ramp rate constraints. Here, valve point loading effects that cause nonsmoothness of the objective function is also considered while solving the DED. The accuracy of the solution not only depends on the optimal scheduling of generating units, but it also lies in accuracy while estimating transmission system losses. Generally, B-loss coefficients are used in estimating transmission losses. However, in the literature, …

Optimal Siting And Sizing Of Rapid Charging Station For Electric Vehicles Considering Bangi City Road Network In Malaysia, Mainul Islam, Hussain Shareef, Azah Mohamed

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Recently, electric vehicles (EVs) have been seen as a felicitous option towards a less carbon-intensive road transport. The key issue in this system is recharging the EV batteries before they are exhausted. Thus, charging stations (CSs) should be carefully located to make sure EV users can access a CS within their driving range. Considering geographic information and traffic density, this paper proposes an optimization overture for optimal siting and sizing of a rapid CS (RCS). It aims to minimize the daily total cost (which includes the cost of substation energy loss, traveling cost of EVs to the CS, and investment, …

In this study, a multiobjective environmental economic power dispatch problem has been converted into a single-objective optimization problem using the weighted sum method. For the solution of the converted problem, the gravitational search algorithm (GSA), which is one of the latest algorithms, has been used. In order to increase the performance of the GSA, opposite positioning quality has been added to the structure of the algorithm (OGSA). The obtained results show that the proposed algorithm has obtained better results and has provided a faster convergence. The 30-bus 6-generator test system has been selected for application of the OGSA. The transmission …
