Previous literature demonstrates that autonomous UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) have the po- tential to be utilized for wildfire surveillance. This advanced technology empowers firefighters by providing them with critical information, thereby facilitating more informed decision-making processes. This thesis applies deep Q-learning techniques to the problem of control policy design under the objective that the UAVs collectively identify the maximum number of locations that are under fire, assuming the UAVs can share their observations. Martian polygonally cracked ground is actively studied by planetary geologists and may be indicative of subsurface water. The de facto method to increase adversarial robustness is to train neural networks with a mixture of adversarial images and unperturbed images. Obtaining accurate inferences from deep neural networks is difficult when models are trained on instances with conflicting labels. Algorithmic recognition of online hate speech illustrates this. No human annotator is perfectly reliable, so multiple annotators evaluate and label online posts in a corpus. Labeling scheme limitations, differences in annotators' beliefs, and limits to annotators' honesty and carefulness cause some labels to disagree. Consequently, decisive and accurate inferences become less likely. Some practical applications such as social research can tolerate some indecisiveness. A portable, real-time vital sign estimation protoype is developed using neural network- based localization, multi-object tracking, and embedded processing optimizations. The system estimates heart and respiration rates of multiple subjects using directional of arrival techniques on RADAR data. This system is useful in many civilian and military applications including search and rescue.
