Normal-Strength And High-Strength Concrete Columns Under Cyclic Axial Load And Biaxial Moment, Mehdi Zarei Jan 2016

Normal-Strength And High-Strength Concrete Columns Under Cyclic Axial Load And Biaxial Moment, Mehdi Zarei

Dissertations

The technique of using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) materials to repair and strengthen various concrete members has become popular in the structural retrofitting field as an effective way to enhance the strength and ductility of concrete members due to its superior mechanical properties. In this study a method was introduced to study the behavior of concrete columns with and without CFRP jackets under constant axial load and variable lateral load. The lateral load was applied monotonically and cyclically. To predict the behavior of concrete columns under monotonic and cyclic compressive loadings, a computer code was developed to produce the …

Behavior Of Structural Concrete Members Strengthened By Composite Fabrics, Jian Chen Jan 2005

Behavior Of Structural Concrete Members Strengthened By Composite Fabrics, Jian Chen

Dissertations

The new technique of using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials to repair and strengthen various concrete members is becoming more and more popular in structural retrofitting field. Among all the confining materials, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) fabric jackets are identified as an effective way to enhance the strength and ductility of concrete members due to its superior mechanical properties. This study investigates the detailed structural behavior of confined concrete members using CFRP fabric jackets by both analytical and experimental approaches.

A series of CFRP wrapped concrete cylinder tests were conducted to study the compressive stress-strain behavior for CFRP confined …

Continuity Of Bridges Composed Of Simple-Span Precast Prestressed Concrete Girders Made Continuous, Libin Yin Aug 2004

Continuity Of Bridges Composed Of Simple-Span Precast Prestressed Concrete Girders Made Continuous, Libin Yin

Dissertations

Bridges composed of simple-span, precast, prestressed concrete girders made continuous via cast-in-place decks and diaphragms are continuous only for live loads and superimposed dead loads. The continuity diaphragms often crack due to time dependent effects in the girders. These cracks not only impair bridge ascetics and durability, but also reduce "degree of continuity". A related issue is that joint construction is time consuming and expensive due to reinforcement congestion. This dissertation presents a series of field tests, analytical studies, and laboratory experiments concerning the design and performance of this type of bridge.

Behavior Of Biaxially Loaded Concrete-Encased Composite Columns, Pedro Ricardo Munoz Apr 1994

Behavior Of Biaxially Loaded Concrete-Encased Composite Columns, Pedro Ricardo Munoz

Dissertations

The theory of nonlinear behavior of biaxially loaded short and slender composite columns is used to study the load-deformation and moment-curvature of four pin-ended composite column specimens tested under axial compressive load and biaxial bending moments in a single curvature. The accuracy of the test results is verified by comparison with analytical results obtained by a method of analysis that includes the nonlinear material properties of concrete and steel and covers the ascending and descending branches of the linear segmented column specimen. A computational method is presented to model the analytical behavior of the biaxially loaded composite column. Its validity …
