Experimental Investigation Of Anchor Edge Distance Effects On Concrete Breakout Strength Within Frc, Ahmed Shlash Dec 2023

Experimental Investigation Of Anchor Edge Distance Effects On Concrete Breakout Strength Within Frc, Ahmed Shlash

Civil Engineering Theses

This research investigates the effect of edge on concrete breakout strength within steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) under pure tension load. Single and group sets of anchors with high-strength steel-headed studs type (F1554 Grade 105) were cast in place within concrete specimens of different amounts of steel fibers and varied edge distances. Steel fibers were used in three percentages (0%, 0.5%, and 1%) by a weight-volume fraction of the mixture to produce three types of concrete mix designs in the lab. The physical and mechanical properties of steel fibers concrete were calculated and measured by testing specimens at the Civil …

Comparative Mechanical Property Evaluation Of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete Reinforced With High-Strength Steel Straight And Hooked Fibers, Sujan Kumar Singh Aug 2023

Comparative Mechanical Property Evaluation Of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete Reinforced With High-Strength Steel Straight And Hooked Fibers, Sujan Kumar Singh

Civil Engineering Theses

This study investigates the tensile properties and ductility of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) reinforced with high-strength steel hooked fibers with a tensile strength of 445 ksi (3,070 MPa) and compares its tensile performance to that of UHPC reinforced with commonly used high-strength smooth steel microfibers with a tensile strength of 2,160 MPa (313 ksi). The research is based on a proprietary mix developed at the University of Texas at Arlington and investigates the mechanical properties of UHPC with varying fiber volume fractions of 1.5%, 2%, 2.25%, and 2.4%. The experimental results indicate that UHPC reinforced with high strength hooked fibers generally …

Application Of Artificial Neural Network (Ann) In Development Of Prediction Models For Pavement Performance And Material Properties, Prashanta Kumar Acharjee Jul 2023

Application Of Artificial Neural Network (Ann) In Development Of Prediction Models For Pavement Performance And Material Properties, Prashanta Kumar Acharjee

Civil Engineering Theses

This dissertation presents the development and application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN)- based prediction models for Dynamic Modulus (E*), Dynamic Shear Modulus (|Gb*|, Phase Angle (b), Soil-Water Characteristics Curve (SWCC) parameters, and International Roughness Index (IRI). The IRI prediction model considering climatic and traffic conditions of Texas with data from the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) database with R 2 = 0.92 can be utilized by Local transportation agencies. An E* prediction model with three neurons, using 7400 data points obtained from 346 mixtures with R2=0.82 can bypass the need for laboratory tests. ANN-based |Gb*| and b prediction models were also …

Analyze The Effect Of Urbanization And Development Over The Flow Regime And River Channel Hydraulics Of The Big Bear Creek Channel, Machiraju Pakasasana Kashyap May 2023

Analyze The Effect Of Urbanization And Development Over The Flow Regime And River Channel Hydraulics Of The Big Bear Creek Channel, Machiraju Pakasasana Kashyap

Civil Engineering Theses

This thesis focuses on investigating the influence of urbanization and development on flow regime and river channel hydraulics in the Bear Creek watershed, Texas using a comprehensive set of hydrologic and 1D/2D coupled hydraulic model. The Bear Creek watershed, located in North Texas, has experienced rapid urbanization and land development in recent years, raising concerns about the potential impacts on hydrological processes and the hydraulic behavior of the river system. To address these concerns, this research utilizes an integrated modeling approach, combining the HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS software tools, to assess changes in flow rates and simulate their effects on river …

Optimization Of Primary Chemical Feed Rates And Application Points At An Existing Potable Water Treatment Plant, Brently Keith Jordan May 2023

Optimization Of Primary Chemical Feed Rates And Application Points At An Existing Potable Water Treatment Plant, Brently Keith Jordan

Civil Engineering Theses

Due to a major upset in the treatment processes for the Dallas County Park Cities Municipal Utility District caused by a required change in treatment techniques, an optimization study was conducted to find the best treatment strategies for the primary coagulation, flocculation, and settled processes for the treatment plant. A methodology for determining how to optimize jar testing while injecting both ferric sulfate and calcium hydroxide in an almost simultaneous manner was developed, and a large number of jar tests were conducted to determine both the best dosages and the best application points of the two chemicals. As a result …

Use Of Smartphone Apps While Driving: Variations On Driving Performances, Perceived Risks And Behaviors, Juana Perez May 2023

Use Of Smartphone Apps While Driving: Variations On Driving Performances, Perceived Risks And Behaviors, Juana Perez

Civil Engineering Theses

Distracted driving increases the crash frequencies on the road and subsequently leads to fatalities involved with crashes. As technology has evolved, drivers are continuously exposed to newer technology in their vehicles and applications in their phones, which has led to technology representing one of the main secondary tasks that distract drivers on the road. The impact of technology-involved distraction appears to be different by the type of distraction since a secondary task that can be exceedingly distracting to the driver causes more reckless and risky driving. Moreover, the impact of distracted driving may differ by roadway geometries since distracted drivers’ …

Application Of Photogrammetry For Monitoring Soil Surface Movement, Arjan Poudel May 2023

Application Of Photogrammetry For Monitoring Soil Surface Movement, Arjan Poudel

Civil Engineering Theses

Understanding slope behavior and forecasting failure requires accurate soil surface movement measurements. Research gaps and constraints remain despite the development of diverse methods. Recently, photogrammetry has become a promising method for detecting soil surface movement. This method involves setting coded targets and ground points on the soil surface, taking photographs before and after the movement, and using photogrammetric software to measure accurately. However, past studies have mostly used high-end cameras with excellent resolution and geotagging, which may not have been available in all contexts. Thus, this study compares the accuracy and precision of geotechnical soil surface measurement with a consumer-grade …
