A Multi-Objective Sustainable Model For Transportation Asset Management Practices, Marketa Vavrova Jan 2016

A Multi-Objective Sustainable Model For Transportation Asset Management Practices, Marketa Vavrova

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Transportation Asset Management (TAM) practices have gained popularity in the United States and worldwide with the aim to provide the required level of service for the transportation infrastructure network in the most cost-effective manner. However, TAM is a complex decision-making process because many objectives and different perspectives, often producing conflicting goals, must be considered.

This Dissertation presents a Multi-Objective Sustainable (MOS) model to integrate economic, social, and environmental sustainable objectives into TAM decision-making. The objective is to develop a holistic multi-objective asset management approach integrating environmental and social sustainability related performance measures with traditional indicators, such as asset condition and …

A Hybrid Modelling Approach For Maintenance And Rehabilitation Treatment Effectiveness Of Asphalt Pavements In Texas, Daniel Saenz Jan 2013

A Hybrid Modelling Approach For Maintenance And Rehabilitation Treatment Effectiveness Of Asphalt Pavements In Texas, Daniel Saenz

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Analysis tools in pavement management systems are critical to assist transportation agencies in developing the most adequate maintenance and rehabilitation program. The significant elements are not only the type of treatment selected and its cost, but also the quantification of its short-term and long-term effectiveness and the timing of intervention. Methodologies with complex statistical approaches and performance model theories have been previously implemented in their derivation, but they may not be suitable or accurate. Therefore, it is imperative to factor in engineering experience in their assessment. In this thesis, a hybrid modelling approach was presented to systematically introduce expert knowledge …

Calibration Of Concrete Pavement Performance Models, Alejandra Gallegos Jan 2012

Calibration Of Concrete Pavement Performance Models, Alejandra Gallegos

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Pavement performance models exist in various forms to cater to the pavement management agencies' needs and resources. Well-calibrated models are needed to accurately predict future pavement conditions, and to forecast and prioritize confidently the future rehabilitation and maintenance expenditures. Statistical tools are commonly used to develop the performance models. These statistical models may be impractical or misleading if not constrained with experts' opinions. This paper presents a hybrid technique where statistical tools and expert knowledge are combined for the calibration of pavement performance models. This technique was validated using historical pavement condition data for continuously-reinforced-concrete pavements (CRCP) from the Texas …
