Process Data Analytics Using Deep Learning Techniques, Majid Moradi Aliabadi
Process Data Analytics Using Deep Learning Techniques, Majid Moradi Aliabadi
Wayne State University Theses
In chemical manufacturing plants, numerous types of data are accessible, which could be process operational data (historical or real-time), process design and product quality data, economic and environmental (including process safety, waste emission and health impact) data. Effective knowledge extraction from raw data has always been a very challenging task, especially the data needed for a type of study is huge. Other characteristics of process data such as noise, dynamics, and highly correlated process parameters make this more challenging.
In this study, we introduce an attention-based RNN for multi-step-ahead prediction that can have applications in model predictive control, fault diagnosis, …
Molecular Exchange Monte Carlo. A Generalized Method For Identity Exchanges In Grand Canonical Monte Carlo Simulations, Mohammad Soroush Barhaghi
Molecular Exchange Monte Carlo. A Generalized Method For Identity Exchanges In Grand Canonical Monte Carlo Simulations, Mohammad Soroush Barhaghi
Wayne State University Theses
A generalized identity exchange algorithm is presented for Monte Carlo simulations in the grand canonical ensemble. The algorithm, referred to as Molecular Exchange Monte Carlo (MEMC), may be applied to multicomponent systems of arbitrary molecular topology, and provides significant enhancements in the sampling of phase space over a wide range of compositions and temperatures. Three different approaches are presented for the insertion of large molecules, and the pros and cons of each method are discussed. The performance of the algorithms is highlighted through grand canonical Monte Carlo histogram-reweighting simulations performed on several systems, including 2,2,4-trimethylpentane+neopentane, butane+perfluorobutane, methane+n-alkanes, and water+impurity. Relative …
Engineering Of Organic Nanocrystals By Electrocrystallization, Mohamed Kilani
Engineering Of Organic Nanocrystals By Electrocrystallization, Mohamed Kilani
Wayne State University Theses
This work discusses the experimental and theoretical methods used to control the morphology of nanocrystals. The hypothesis of the thermodynamic/kinetic control of the morphology was verified. We applied the electrocrystallization to make K(def)TCP nanocrystals and we tuned the electrochemical parameters to determine their influence on the nanocrystals morphologies. The characterization was mainly performed with AFM and FE-SEM. We presented in this work the possibility to control the morphology of K(def)TCP using the electrochemical parameters. The obtained shapes ranged from nanorods to rhombohedral shape, which is reported for the first time. The observed growth behavior was modeled and simulated with a …

To achieve better property of polymer coatings, different categories of nanoparticles are applied before coating’s curing process. However, one of the adverse effects is the change of final property, which leads the difficulty of product quality control. Using mathematical modeling method can actually improve the cost and time to get a prediction of product quality. Still now, different series of models are developed for various purposes. For example, Monte-Carlo simulation …
Model Based Process Analysis And Tool Development For Sustainable Electroplating Operations, Navdeep Bhadbhade
Model Based Process Analysis And Tool Development For Sustainable Electroplating Operations, Navdeep Bhadbhade
Wayne State University Theses
The electroplating industry has faced tremendous challenges in maintaining its economic competitiveness as well as improving its environmental performance in the global economy. In electroplating systems, waste generation from manufacturing lines has been always a serious concern, as waste emitted in different forms contains various hazardous and toxic chemicals. It is recognized that much of the generated waste is avoidable, and reduction of such avoidable waste could significantly reduce the consumption of chemicals, energy, and water. Proactive source reduction can improve not only environmental quality, but also economic performance. This type of source reduction, which could be called Proactive Pollution …
Facile Fabrication Of Mesostructured Zn2sno4 Based Anode Materials For Reversible Lithium Ion Storage, Sai Karthik Karthik Addu
Facile Fabrication Of Mesostructured Zn2sno4 Based Anode Materials For Reversible Lithium Ion Storage, Sai Karthik Karthik Addu
Wayne State University Theses
Increase in all electric and hybrid car sales from Electric drive transportation association show that Lithium-ion batteries stands as a promising option for these vehicles. Hence improving these batteries is the objective of this thesis. We try to improve the electrode material by using unique structures and coating carbon layers on the material.
We chose Zinc tin oxide (ZTO) as it has been shown in literature to be a good oxide for batteries. We tried improving it by making new Rubik-cube like microstructure of it and more interestingly coating a layer of carbon on it. We could show from our …

Major: Alternative Energy Technology

Transition metals have the ability to catalyze free radical autoxidation of unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters (i.e., biodiesel). The catalytic effects of the eight period IV transition metals: V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co Ni, Cu and Zn in soybean oil and cottonseed oil-based biodiesel are investigated. All metals produced a reduction of the induction period of biodiesel, although there are considerable differences in their catalytic …

Superconducting thin films of magnesium diboride were synthesized by a novel electroless plating process. Electroless plating shares many similarities to electroplating with the major difference being the absence of a continuous bias voltage. Significantly, this work represents the first investigation where electroless deposition has been used to prepare compounds, as opposed to the elemental metals considered in all previous studies. Magnesium Diboride is a recently discovered superconducting …
