Effects Of Biodiesel Concentration On Microbial Deterioration Of Polyethylene In A Simulated Fuel Storage Tank, Juan Manuel Restrepo-Florez
Effects Of Biodiesel Concentration On Microbial Deterioration Of Polyethylene In A Simulated Fuel Storage Tank, Juan Manuel Restrepo-Florez
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
In this study a simulated fuel storage tank was used to investigate the effect of biodiesel concentration on biodegradation of polyethylene. This research is relevant in the field of fuel storage. The simulated storage system consisted of a number of identical conical flasks. Each flask was comprised of two layers, an upper one consisting of a fuel blend of diesel with biodiesel in concentrations ranging from 0 to 100% of biodiesel and the bottom layer containing an aqueous mineral media inoculated with a community obtained from a real fuel storage facility. Polyethylene slabs cut to a specific size were immersed …
Investigation Of Lysozyme Refolding Using Ionic Liquids As Refolding Additives, Harpreet Kaur
Investigation Of Lysozyme Refolding Using Ionic Liquids As Refolding Additives, Harpreet Kaur
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
A rapid and inexpensive method for the production of protein is crucial for the biopharmaceutical industry. The bottleneck in the case of genetically engineered systems lies in the recovery of active and properly refolded proteins from inclusion bodies. The correct refolding of a protein from its denatured state is dependent on several parameters including the concentration of the protein, the refolding buffers utilized, the approach employed and finally the type of refolding additives, if any, used in the process.
In this study, an emerging class of refolding additives, namely, ionic liquids were investigated for the refolding of denatured lysozyme protein. …
Fate Of Estrogens In Anaerobic Digestion And Their Removal In Advanced Oxidation, Shubhajit Sarkar
Fate Of Estrogens In Anaerobic Digestion And Their Removal In Advanced Oxidation, Shubhajit Sarkar
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Estrogenic compounds are most significant endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC), which are of primary concern due to their widespread presence in the aqueous environment and also due to their adverse impact both on aquatic life and potential risk to human health. Conventional wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove EDC, with biosorption on biosolids as the predominant removal mechanism. Anaerobic digestion is one of the most preferred processes employed for sludge stabilization in wastewater treatment plants. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are seen as promising technologies for removal of estrogens from the environment. In this research, a controlled degradation study of …
Effect Of Plant Hormones On The Production Of Biomass And Lipid In Microalgae, Malihe Mehdizadeh Allaf
Effect Of Plant Hormones On The Production Of Biomass And Lipid In Microalgae, Malihe Mehdizadeh Allaf
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Limited fossil fuel reserves, increasing demand for energy in all parts of the world are some driving forces to look for new sources of transportation fuels. Among different options available, microalgae are currently attracting wide interests as an alternative and renewable fuel source.
Microalgae are single cell photosynthetic organisms that are known for rapid growth and high energy content and as a part of photosynthesis; they produce oil that can be used as a feedstock for biodiesel production. Some algae strains could contain lipid up to 80% of the dry biomass. The amount of lipid production is in direct relation …

Sol-Gel Derived Biodegradable And Bioactive Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Biomaterials For Bone Tissue Engineering, Bedilu A. Allo

Treatments of bone injuries and defects have been largely centered on replacing the lost bone with tissues of allogeneic or xenogeneic sources as well as synthetic bone substitutes, which in all lead to limited degree of structural and functional recovery. As a result, tissue engineering has emerged as a viable technology to regenerate the structures and therefore recover the functions of bone tissue rather than replacement alone. Hence, the current strategies of bone tissue engineering and regeneration rely on bioactive scaffolds to mimic the natural extracellular matrix (ECM) as templates onto which cells attach, multiply, migrate and function.

Batch And Continuous Studies Of Chlorella Vulgaris In Photo-Bioreactors, Claudia Sacasa Castellanos
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Microalgae are unicellular, photosynthetic microorganisms, they have minimal nutrient requirements and are being used as source materials for a variety of products such as protein rich nutritional supplements, pharmaceutical chemicals and pigments (used in food and cosmetics). They also grow extremely fast, in comparison to plants and many microalgae strains are exceedingly rich in oil which makes them great candidates for the production of biodiesel. The strain Chlorella vulgaris, has shown a great promise as a source of oil and as being able to help in the treatment of wastewater. Despite all the advantages , the high cost of …
