Aircraft Hydraulic Systems - Fundamentals, Nihad E. Daidzic
Aircraft Hydraulic Systems - Fundamentals, Nihad E. Daidzic
Aviation Department Publications
Aircraft hydraulic systems are essential non-propulsive power systems. Hydraulic power systems are used to power major functional aircraft systems, such as flight controls (primary and secondary), friction braking, nose gear steering, thrust-reversers, operating heavy cargo doors, etc.
Wind Tunnel Measurements And Data Analysis Tutorial, Nihad E. Daidzic
Wind Tunnel Measurements And Data Analysis Tutorial, Nihad E. Daidzic
Aviation Department Publications
This tutorial gives details on processing of raw aerodynamic data measured directly in the wind tunnel on airfoils and wings. Also procedures and equations from the lab report are given and demonstrated how to compute geometric characteristics of wings/airfoils and air data. All numeric results are typically rounded to five significant digits.
Keeping Your Distance: The Science Of Turns-Around-A-Point And Ground Reference Maneuvers, Nihad E. Daidzic
Keeping Your Distance: The Science Of Turns-Around-A-Point And Ground Reference Maneuvers, Nihad E. Daidzic
Aviation Department Publications
Ground reference maneuvers are more important than you may think. Frequently regarded as unimportant or boring, ground reference maneuver training is often limited to a few minutes of flight instructor demonstration and brief student practice.

W&B Problems For Far/Cs 25 Airplanes Tutorial, Nihad E. Daidzic
Aviation Department Publications
Weight and Balance (W&B) computations are essential step in ensuring that the aircraft (in this case FAR/CS 25 Transport-category airplanes) is properly loaded with its Center of Mass (CM) of Center of Weight/Gravity (CG) in the proper range.

A New Model For Lifting Condensation Levels Estimation, Nihad E. Daidzic
A New Model For Lifting Condensation Levels Estimation, Nihad E. Daidzic
Aviation Department Publications
Knowledge of and the ability to predict lifting condensation levels (LCL) is important ingredient in weather predictions, cloud formation, planetary albedo and Earth’s energy balance. It is also essential topic in aviation safety and flight operations. In this article, we derive a new model of LCL and compare it to some older commonly-used models. This includes also the recently published Romps’ (2017) model. The new model presented here includes dependence, however weak, of the surface atmospheric pressure and the specific humidity on the LCL height and temperature. Such is not the case with widely used models and expressions by Espy …
