Rc Baja Suspension And Steering, Garrett Bailey Jan 2023

Rc Baja Suspension And Steering, Garrett Bailey

All Undergraduate Projects

The RC Baja team set out to engineer and construct a working remote-control device that can compete in the ASME Baja Competition. The students have a focus on either suspension and steering or drivetrain and chassis. This report is centered on the suspension and steering. First, multiple analyses were completed using engineering methods such as mechanical design, statics, strengths of materials, and dynamics for parts of the device. The calculations found in the analysis are then used to create designs for the parts so that they will meet the requirements and be successful in the competition. After the parts are …

Rc Baja Independent Suspension And Chassis Design And Development, Joseph Fritz Jan 2022

Rc Baja Independent Suspension And Chassis Design And Development, Joseph Fritz

All Undergraduate Projects

The goal of this project is to develop an RC car to compete in the MET RC Baja competition. A car will be constructed to be as lightweight, durable, and fast as possible while abiding by ROAR (Remotely Operated Auto Racers) regulations. As such, suspension, steering, chassis and drivetrain systems will need to be devised to form a complete vehicle. The chassis must provide mounting points for all other components of the vehicle and provide a rigid platform in order to create a stable vehicle. The suspension must operate smoothly, allowing for at least 1 inch of ground clearance, …

Subjective Evaluation Of Vehicle Semi-Active Suspension For Improved Ride And Handling, Zachery Sinasac Oct 2021

Subjective Evaluation Of Vehicle Semi-Active Suspension For Improved Ride And Handling, Zachery Sinasac

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The number of passenger cars currently equipped with semi-active suspensions has been steadily increasing in recent decades. These suspension systems provide an improvement in ride and handling when compared to passive suspensions. Currently, the approach to evaluating and tuning semi-active suspensions has been limited to objective methods or time-consuming alterations made on physical components. To alleviate the time and costs and improve the fidelity of such methods, a novel solution to subjectively evaluating vehicle semi-active suspensions is presented. The subjective evaluation method herein involves the use of a state-of-the-art dynamic driving simulator with drivers to subjectively evaluate and tune virtual …

Asme Rc Baja Challenge: Suspension And Steering, Hunter W. Jacobson Jan 2018

Asme Rc Baja Challenge: Suspension And Steering, Hunter W. Jacobson

All Undergraduate Projects

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) usually hosts an RC Baja challenge each year, testing a RC car in three events: slalom, acceleration and Baja. Although ASME will not be holding an event this year, CWU will be holding a similar event with three RC Baja car teams from CWU. The RC car that is tested in these events is designed and manufactured typically in teams of two. The RC car that each team submits must be able to complete these events while also remaining competitive. One part of great importance for the RC car is the suspension and …

The Engineering Process For The Design Of A Motorcycle Chassis And Suspension, Derek J. Noce May 2012

The Engineering Process For The Design Of A Motorcycle Chassis And Suspension, Derek J. Noce

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

The thesis objective is to define and establish an engineering process for the design of a modern motorcycle chassis and suspension. The engineering process focuses on the interdisciplinary fields of engineering dealing with design and structural optimization. Specialized software, such as Motorcycle Kinematics, MATLAB, CATIA, HEEDS Professional, and NASTRAN are utilized. Motorcycle Kinematics is used to set up the preliminary motorcycle geometry, and MATLAB is a used to analyze the kinematics and stability of the motorcycle based on this geometry. CATIA (Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application) is used to graphically illustrate the geometry of the motorcycle in three dimensional space. …

Design And Fabrication Of Rear Suspension And Drivetrain For Union College's Sae Baja Car, Nicholas W. Oren Jun 2011

Design And Fabrication Of Rear Suspension And Drivetrain For Union College's Sae Baja Car, Nicholas W. Oren

Honors Theses

My senior project is to design and fabricate the rear suspension and drivetrain for Union College’s SAE Baja car. This project started with the determination of the optimum style of suspension and drivetrain for use on the vehicle. I worked with a company to obtain a custom-built transmission, and I successfully designed the drivetrain to use this transmission. I also designed the frame of the Baja car required to mount these elements. Finally, I designed the rear suspension of the car. The drivetrain design incorporates a 5-speed sequential transmission with a reverse. This transmission is driven by a centrifugal clutch …
