Design Thinking & Strategic Product Planning For Highly Engineered Products, Shannon Dare Wayne Jan 2020

Design Thinking & Strategic Product Planning For Highly Engineered Products, Shannon Dare Wayne

Wayne State University Dissertations

This paper offers an integrated framework to systematically address routine challenges plaguing early product development for highly engineered and complex products, such as automobiles. The framework includes up-front strategic product planning leveraging ‘design thinking’ and ‘design execution’ through a structured process to enable adaptation under uncertainties in the product development lifecycle for customer delight and program success. Included is product planning, from fuzzy front-end until product launch, and prioritizing aligned strategic initiatives while integrating design thinking throughout the process. We also discuss two real-world case studies to emphasize the efficacy of the framework and to demonstrate practical examples of how …

Precursors And Processes For The Growth Of Metallic First Row Transition Metal Films By Atomic Layer Deposition, Lakmal Charidu Kalutarage Jan 2014

Precursors And Processes For The Growth Of Metallic First Row Transition Metal Films By Atomic Layer Deposition, Lakmal Charidu Kalutarage

Wayne State University Dissertations

As a result of the continuous miniaturization of microelectronics devices, atomic layer deposition (ALD) has gained much attention in the recent years. ALD allows the deposition of ultra-thin conformal films with accurate thickness control due to the self-limiting growth mechanism. The microelectronics industry requires the growth of metallic first row transition metal films by ALD. Due to the positive electrochemical potentials, the ALD growth of noble metal thin films has been well developed in the past. By contrast, the ALD growth of first row transition metal films remains poorly documented. The reasons for this scarcity include the lack of suitable …

Development Of A Computer-Aided Design Supporting System For Transformative Product Design, Keunho Choi Jan 2012

Development Of A Computer-Aided Design Supporting System For Transformative Product Design, Keunho Choi

Wayne State University Dissertations

Modern product innovation is often delivered by fusing technologies from different domains. To meet the current speedy pressure of product innovation, the conceptual design is a very critical stage to develop an innovative product. This research presents a new design paradigm, Transformative Product Design (TPD), to meet the demands in the conceptual design. TPD aims to design a new product from a combination out of a base product and reference products, which have been developed.

To expedite the TPD paradigm, Interaction Network is introduced to represent a product design by following a representative product design representation method in the teleological …
