Measurement Of Antibacterial Properties Of Foil‑Backed Electrospun Nanofibers, Mary Ann Wagner-Graham, Herbert Barndt, Mark Andrew Sunderland
Measurement Of Antibacterial Properties Of Foil‑Backed Electrospun Nanofibers, Mary Ann Wagner-Graham, Herbert Barndt, Mark Andrew Sunderland
College of Life Sciences Faculty Papers
Current methodologies for evaluation of antibacterial properties of traditional textiles are not applicable to foil‑backed, poorly‑absorbent electrospun nanofiber materials, since existing test methods require absorbent fabrics. Since electrospun nanofibers are adhered to the foil backing only by electrostatic interactions, methods used to evaluate antibacterial properties of surfaces cannot be used because these protocols cause the nanofibers to lift from the foil backing. Therefore, a novel method for measurement of the antibacterial properties of electrospun metallic foil‑backed nanofiber materials was developed. This method indicated that acetate‑based nanofibers manufactured to contain 5 to 30 weight percent of cold‑pressed hemp seed oil or …

Guiding Principles For Integrally Christian Engineering Work In Industry, Justin R. Vander Werff
Guiding Principles For Integrally Christian Engineering Work In Industry, Justin R. Vander Werff
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
What is integrally Christian engineering? Or to ask it slightly differently, what does engineering look like if it is faithful and obedient to God’s will as revealed in His Word? I do not think we, as finite and creaturely Christ-followers, can expect to exhaustively determine God’s biblical directive for every facet of engineering and technology on this side eternity. However, if we truly believe that Christ is Lord of all of life and that He calls us to grateful service in everything we do, we need to continue to wrestle with these questions. One framework to help navigate these questions …

Using Reflection To Facilitate Writing Knowledge Transfer In Upper-Level Materials Science Courses, Jennifer C. Mallette, Harold Ackler
English Literature Faculty Publications and Presentations
When students enter upper-level engineering courses, they may bring with them unclear or inconsistent approaches to writing in engineering. Influenced by their past experiences with writing, students encountering engineering genres such as reports and proposals may struggle to write successfully. They may struggle in part because of the messiness inherent in writing knowledge transfer: a student who successfully completed freshman composition may still be unable to transfer skills, habits of mind, and approaches to writing from that setting to engineering because the rhetorical situations look drastically different. Yancey, Robertson, and Taczak define transfer as a “dynamic rather than a static …

Soundboard: Planar Tracking For Instrument Control, Peter O'Sullivan
Soundboard: Planar Tracking For Instrument Control, Peter O'Sullivan
ENGS 86 Independent Projects (AB Students)
The Soundboard is the central component of Syrinx, a synthesizer instrument invented by Spencer Topel. A generated audio signal is transduced through the Soundboard, and by manually adjusting the positioning of its top metal plane, the user can manipulate the encased soundwaves before they are transduced back into a signal and output. My task for this project was to add controller functionality to the Soundboard component by implementing control voltages that carry information about its planar tilt, yaw, and altitude. These voltages can be used to modulate various digital parameters and further affect the sonic output of the instrument. Further, …
