Exploring The Potential Of Pavegen’S Kinetic Energy Generating Floor For Sustainable Energy Solutions: A Proposal For Cal Poly Slo, Brandon J. Cuneo

Construction Management

This paper proposes the installation of Pavegen's kinetic energy generating floors at Cal Poly’s campus as a sustainable energy solution. Pavegen has developed a pioneering technology that converts footsteps into clean and renewable energy. The versatility of these floors is demonstrated through successful implementations in various settings, such as transportation hubs and public spaces, generating power from foot traffic. Collaborations with Schneider Electric, installation at Dupont Circle, and integration at Heathrow Airport showcase the potential for sustainable urban infrastructure. This paper outlines research conducted on Pavegen and similar solutions, including communication with company representatives and examining proposed installation locations at …

Skip The Grid: Providing Power And Light To The Navajo Nation, Esai Contreras

Construction Management

Skip the Grid was created as an initiative to power communities that are in need. This project was made possible through a collaborative effort from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) students, industry partners SOLV Energy and Goal Zero, and facilitated through the educational non-profit organization Heart of America (HOA). The goal of this project was to help families of school age children in the Navajo Nation by providing solar energy systems including a battery and lighting. We hoped to achieve a long-lasting effect on the families by installing necessities for families with school-aged children. For the …

Techno-Economic Analysis Of Using Pv Curtain Walls In Hot Arid Environmentcase Study; Mixed-Use Building, Jeddah, Ksa, Abdelaziz Farouk A. Mohamed, Ahmed T. Elfakgarany

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

Nowadays the world no longer has a choice to reduce the dependency of non-renewable energy resources, especially in buildings. This type of energy like fossil fuel is responsible for global warming and the climate change phenomenon. The construction industry has to depend on renewable energy to improve environmental impacts while operating the buildings. The most promising technologies for buildings are photovoltaic panels system which converts solar radiation into electricity without harming the environment. PV system is not only used as top-roof panels but also it can play an important role in the exterior building cladding and in curtain wall system …

Carbon Neutral Urban Spaces Under Climate Change Case Study: Renovation Of Sidi Gaber Neighborhood In Alexandria, Egypt, Abdel Aziz Farouk Mohamed Jan 2020

Carbon Neutral Urban Spaces Under Climate Change Case Study: Renovation Of Sidi Gaber Neighborhood In Alexandria, Egypt, Abdel Aziz Farouk Mohamed

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

With growing pressure from the public on governments and organizations to address climate change, the term ‘carbon neutral’ has become increasingly used in recent years. Carbon neutral is an emerging definition that relates to measuring, reducing and offsetting carbon energy used by either a building or an organization as a whole. Buildings are a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions when they operated by fossil fuel energy resources. Sustainable urban development is essential issue to enhance the quality of life of city residents and to decrease the negative impact of conventional type of energy through using the renewable energy resources. …

Haiti Transitional Home: Solar Panel System Design, Kasey Riese Hetzel Jun 2019

Haiti Transitional Home: Solar Panel System Design, Kasey Riese Hetzel

Construction Management

Haiti is located in a region with optimal access to the sun’s rays, but not enough resources to make use of them. While the country is known for its limited access to electricity and unreliable power quality, it has the potential to become a renewable energy powerhouse. Providing a safe place for families to reunite under one roof, that runs solely on solar power is the ultimate goal of this project. Not only designing the most efficient system, but finding which products are available in country, and which products would be more cost effective to ship internationally was the intent …
