Design And Demonstration Of An Inertial-Stabilized Single-Axis Headlamp For Mobile Systems, Thomas Avery Allsup Dec 2023

Design And Demonstration Of An Inertial-Stabilized Single-Axis Headlamp For Mobile Systems, Thomas Avery Allsup

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dissertations

The introduction of adaptive headlamps has added left and right movement of the headlamps to enhance the vision of the driver during a turn at night. Adaptive headlamps also allow up and down motion of headlamps in either two discrete positions with low and high beams based on vehicle speed and oncoming traffic lights or using the vehicle suspension measurement to adjust headlamp beam angles in any angle between low and high. Using the vehicle suspension ignores the roadway influence on where the headlamps should be positioned to illuminate the roadway for the driver. This dissertation develops governing equations and …

Development Of An Electro-Pneumatic Servo Clutch And Industry-Level Controller, Timothy Stevens May 2022

Development Of An Electro-Pneumatic Servo Clutch And Industry-Level Controller, Timothy Stevens

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses

This thesis covers the simulation and development of an electro-pneumatic servo clutch used on an FSAE racecar. This project utilizes a sophisticated simulation and various techniques to increase performance such as utilizing pulse-width and pulse-frequency modulation and the use of a 36V supply with constant current limiting to drive the solenoids. The clutch is actuated using a pneumatic cylinder with the internal pressure modulated using commercially available CNG fuel injectors. This thesis also describes the development of the electronic controller designed using analog circuits, as well as the integration of digital circuits to control operations such as launch control and …

Optimal Design Of Automotive Exhaust Thermoelectric Generator (Aeteg), Hassan Fagehi Dec 2016

Optimal Design Of Automotive Exhaust Thermoelectric Generator (Aeteg), Hassan Fagehi

Masters Theses

A consumption of energy continues to increase at an exponential rate, especially in terms of automotive spark ignitions vehicles. About 40% of the applied fuel into a vehicle is lost as waste exhaust to the environment. The desire for improved fuel efficiency by recovering the exhaust waste heat in automobiles has become an important subject. The thermoelectric generator (TEG) has the potential to convert exhaust waste heat into electricity as long as it is improving fuel economy. The remarkable amount of research being conducted on TEGs indicates that this technology will have a bright future in terms of power generation. …

Analysis Of Road Vehicle Aerodynamics With Computational Fluid Dynamics, Christian Armando Mata Jan 2016

Analysis Of Road Vehicle Aerodynamics With Computational Fluid Dynamics, Christian Armando Mata

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

A road vehicles aerodynamics can be one of the most influential aspects of its performance. With the increased importance on fuel efficiency in recent years, new road vehicles are being developed smaller in size, with smaller displacement engines, as well as with improved aerodynamics. The aerodynamics of a vehicle can have a significant effect on its fuel efficiency, as well as other important aspects of the vehicles performance such as the top speed, acceleration, and handling. A study focusing on analyzing aerodynamic effects due to vehicle geometries such as wheels covered by the vehicles body in comparison to open wheels …
