Forty percent of undergraduate students are non-traditional students. The purpose of this study was to identify what attracted the participant to physical education, identify what situational/social factors facilitated the career choice, and the beliefs of the participant about what it meant to be a physical educator. The study consisted of one male non-traditional student. Artifacts, observation, and interview methods were employed to gain an understanding of why the participant wanted to become a physical educator and what were the beliefs of the participant about physical education teaching or teachers. Students are being required to assimilate more types of information, in multiple formats, and to do so in a more efficient manner than in previous decades. These students are digital natives who need to develop 21st century skills in core subjects including reading . Our focus will be on strategies to assist students as they develop new literacies in reading for the 21st century through visual literacy.

Many of our students are first generation and work full time. Our poster will illustrate the use of video presence to allow students to: virtually meet with faculty; participate in group projects from six locations; learn research strategies; develop better communication skills to become better speakers by using face-to-face interact ion. Students connect with alumni in the field sharing real-time work experiences. Significant savings have been realized across campus with online interviewing using this technology.

This paper attempts to analyse the evolving relationship between economic growth and human development for 28 major Indian states during four time periods ranging over the last two decades, viz. 1983, 1993, 1999-2000 and 2004-05. The objective of this exercise is to understand whether per capita income (as an indicator of economic growth) is influenced by human development and vice versa across Indian states. The National Human Development Report 2001 methodology has been applied for constructing the Human Development Index (HDI) for the Indian states. Queensland Teachers’ Conceptions Of Assessment: The Impact Of Policy Priorities On Teacher Attitudes, Gavin Brown, Robert Lake, Gabrielle Matters

The conceptions Queensland teachers have about assessment purposes were surveyed in 2003 with an abridged version of the Teacher Conceptions of Assessment Inventory. Multi-group analysis found that a model with four factors, somewhat different in structure to previous studies, was statistically different between Queensland primary and (lower) secondary teachers. Primary teachers agreed more than secondary teachers that ‘assessment improves teaching and learning’, while the latter agreed more that it ‘makes students accountable’. The inter-correlation of ‘assessment is irrelevant’ to ‘makes students accountable’ was statistically stronger for primary teachers. Teacher beliefs reflected the differing practices of assessment by level of schooling.
