Effectiveness Of Automated Formative Feedback In An Online Tutorial For Promoting Summarizing, Veronika Barkela, Miriam Leuchter

Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)

We conducted a study with the aim to investigate the effectiveness of automated formative feedback in improving students’ ability to summarize. One-hundred and thirty-eight undergraduate students in an elementary education program were asked to summarize six scientific texts, with the experimental group (N=87) receiving automated formative feedback in a computer-based learning environment (FALB). FALB provides automated feedback about content coverage, copying words avoidance, redundancy avoidance, relevance, and length. Comparing the experimental group to a control group (N=51), results implied that summarizing skills could be fostered when interacting with FALB. In particular, the automated formative feedback promoted the adherence to the …

A Longitudinal Qualitative Study On Teachers’ Technology Barriers To Distance Learning: A School For Students With Dyslexia, Holli Bice, Hengtao Tang

Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to develop an account of teachers’ perception of barriers to technology integration throughout distance learning. COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to adopt distance learning to cope with the crisis, but whether teachers are prepared for this change is unknown. Therefore, this study described teachers’ experience of technology integration over the course of distance learning and identified the barriers they faced at a small, private school for students with dyslexia. The findings found distance learning influenced teachers’ technological knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about technology integration. Barriers to technology integration were identified by all participants, …

Research On The Construction Of Data Governance Framework In Vocational Colleges, Qian Zhou, Kaiyu Yi, Xiangyu Chen Jan 2023

Research On The Construction Of Data Governance Framework In Vocational Colleges, Qian Zhou, Kaiyu Yi, Xiangyu Chen

Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)

The data governance framework is a critical reference for organizations to develop data governance plans, carry out data governance processes, and evaluate the effects of data governance. This study employs content analysis based on the existing literature to extract the core elements of vocational college data governance, including 17 primary indicators and 32 secondary indicators from the perspectives of process, organization, and content. Based on the 5W1H principle, a theoretical prototype of the data governance framework for vocational colleges is established. Following this, two rounds of expert consultations were conducted with twelve experts in data governance from vocational colleges, focusing …

Digitizing Borderless Higher Education Landscapes Through Curriculum Policy Change To Educate Global Citizens, Hanife Akar, Elanur Yilmaz-Na, Rukiye Ayan-Civak, Anil Kandemir Dec 2022

Digitizing Borderless Higher Education Landscapes Through Curriculum Policy Change To Educate Global Citizens, Hanife Akar, Elanur Yilmaz-Na, Rukiye Ayan-Civak, Anil Kandemir

Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)

Advancements in science and technology are mobilizing higher education landscapes into borderless settings. Such changes also urge higher education settings to adopt transformative learning opportunities into their curriculum policy. Universities are accountable for helping youth build on their 21st Century competences by highlighting societal issues at global levels such as climate change, refugee crises or big human movements due to poverty, politics, conflicts, wars, or natural disasters. Youth need to build on knowledge, skills, and competences to recognize that any crises in one location can have an immediate impact on neighboring countries primarily and the whole world and challenge their …

The Empirical Research On University Instructors’ Competencies In Virtual Reality Environment From The Perspective Of Students’ Learning Experience, Jing Ma, Yue Wang, Meng Jiang

Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)

The integration of virtual reality (VR) and education is a key way to realize the modernization of higher education. Instructors’ competencies directly affect students’ learning experiences and achievements. Based on the IBSTPI competency standards compiled by the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction (IBSTPI), this study developed an instructors’ competencies scale suitable for the VR environment from the perspective of students’ learning experience and conducted an empirical research on the current situation of instructors’ competencies in VR environment. The scale categorizes of instructors’ competencies included six dimensions: establishing and maintaining learning motivation competencies, expressing competencies, questioning competencies, …

Transactional Distance Theory And Scaffolding Removal Design For Nurturing Students’ Autonomy, Katsuaki Suzuki, Naoshi Hiraoka Jul 2022

Transactional Distance Theory And Scaffolding Removal Design For Nurturing Students’ Autonomy, Katsuaki Suzuki, Naoshi Hiraoka

Journal of Educational Technology Development and Exchange (JETDE)

This paper prorposes eight design principles to nurture autonomy of college students, based on re-conceptualization of Michael Moore's Transactional Distance Theory (TDT). After proposed in 1970’s, TDT has been helping to concepturalize distance education in terms of psychological, not physical, distance among people involved. TDT, on the other hand, has been creating confusions and misinterpretations when utilized in the research and practices of distance education. COVID-19 has forced all educational practices to be offered as distance education, which made us realized the importance of student autonomy, when limited guidance could be offered. Utilizing the framework of TDT, this paper proposes …
