Content Validity Of A Mathematics Placement Test For A Gifted High School, Hannah R. Anderson

The Content Validity of a mathematics placement test at a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) gifted residential high school is examined. Data were collected from internal and external mathematics subject matter experts (SMEs) using a card- sorting task and were analyzed using Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA). Results demonstrate some congruence between the two configurations, suggesting marginal evidence of Content Validity.

IMSA strives to advocate for students of all cultural backgrounds and wants to meet or exceed multicultural counseling competencies established when working with talented students. Current competency based counseling models address multicultural concepts but do not integrate framework to include social justice advocacy. Abstract

In this keynote speech, I describe three exponential technologies affecting our present and future world and make the case for how these advances in technology require new skills that go beyond content knowledge. Following the description and illustration of exponential technologies, I paint a vivid picture of three former students of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) who can serve as icons for how we can nurture the next generation of creative, ethical, and scientifically minded persons. Education has always been a privilege. Most of us do not realize this. Opposition to the implementation of diversity and social equity has littered history. Many modern inventions and improvements were conceived under circumstances that included dire poverty and social inequity.
