In the works of Jean Racine, royalty plays a huge role, especially the women who are royal. However, many of the women are not royal, but have equal or more power and influence over the ones who are royal or over the state. I will analyze queenship and the types of queens and non-queens in the works of Jean Racine that will reveal the importance of power and influence in women in 17th century French theatre.
