She laments her routine existence, the trials of teaching 28 students with dispositions "from bland to ferocious" and "intelligence from imbecility to genius," and their "brilliant answers" on a recent test. She was the first woman elected to any office in Barren County, seven years before woman's suffrage in the United States. She was also the first WKU alum to be elected superintendent of schools.
