In this mixed design study, I explored the relationship between participation in short-term study abroad programs and global citizenship. , I and inquired on the meaning making process of Global Citizenship and study abroad in student leaders in a Hispanic-serving Institution located in the US-Mexico border. The theoretical framework is centered in the global citizenship dimensions - social responsibility, global competence and global civic engagement - developed by Morais and Ogden (2011). I collected 1713 (N=1713) responses and classified them in three groups: Study Abroad alumni (n1=98), International experience different than study abroad (n2=1160), and non-international experience (n3=455). The goal of this study was to explore the effects of study abroad on students' cultural awareness and transformative learning. This study was conducted at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. The students in this study have participated in semester long study abroad during fall 2016, spring 2017, or fall 2017 semesters. For some this was their first time travelling abroad. The literature strongly suggests that there are many benefits for students that participate in study abroad. While a great deal of research has been done on the pedagogical implications and uses of blogging, and even more research has been done on the effects of study abroad, few studies has investigated the use of blogging as a way that learning is processed during study abroad. The Effect Of Study Abroad On The Development Of Intercultural Sensitivity Among Mainland Chinese High School Students, Chenfang Hao

This dissertation examined the effect of year-long study abroad program on the development of intercultural sensitivity among the Mainland Chinese high school students. The sample consisted of 50 study abroad participants and 50 students on home campus. The instrument Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) was employed to assess the intercultural sensitivity level of Mainland Chinese students before and after study abroad experience. The paired samples t-test results reveal that study abroad students did not make statistically significant gains in the overall intercultural sensitivity through participation in the year-long study abroad program.
