Developing Music History Knowledge Through Computer-Assisted Instruction, Elaine A. Meils

A team effort led by the author developed and implemented a model program designed to improve fifth grade students’ knowledge of music history through computer- assisted instruction. The goals of the program were to have the student be able to identify the different periods of music history, music styles of those periods, composers and various writing styles of the composers. The program contained four basic components: pre-test, implementation, post-test and results. After the fifth grade students were randomly chosen, a pre-test was conducted and the implementation began. Courses in history can be nothing but memorizing facts, and courses in literature can be writing without roots . The author proposes a correlated curriculum for high school American literature and history, specifically in the Civil War time frame to change this situation.

The purpose of this curriculum, "American Studies: Civil War," is to make the history of our country live for the student, giving him/her a feeling for the mood of the times and motivating him/her to become politically active as a young citizen.

The purpose of this study is to investigate Chinese American images in selected children's fiction to determine whether or not data support the position of the Council on Interracial Books for Children, that the works of fiction studied tend to stereotype Chinese Americans.

After reading the selected fifteen works of fiction, a criterion checklist was devised by the investigator to examine the behavior and lifestyle of Chinese Americans depicted in a variety of circumstances. validity of the criterion checklist was established by a panel of experts in the area of Chinese American studies.
