These presentation slides accompanied a timely webinar held on April 12, 2012 to share information about the financial aid verification process and how to help students understand the award letters as they receive them. Laura Meek, Director of Financial Aid at Ohio Dominican University, shared her expert knowledge on these topics. In addition to providing attendees with an overview of both verification and award letters, she provides examples/case studies that will help college access & success professionals, school counselors, and youth-serving organization staff in working with their students.

International education today is largely concerned with improving diversity throughout study abroad but despite institutional strategies which seek to address the barriers facing underrepresented students, the overall student profile of study abroad remains unbalanced. Cost is continuously deemed the biggest barrier affecting students' ability to study abroad, a burden that is most likely heavily felt by low-income students. Therefore, the focus of this study is to identify the student perspective in relation to the financial barriers affecting low-income students' intent to study abroad.
