Executive Summary: Information for this report was obtained from a study conducted to determine the relative level of adjustment to college of first-generation and second-generation freshmen at Western Washington University. The study utilized the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ), a 67 item self-report adjustment measure. The SACQ is composed of a full-scale and four subscales: academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, and attachment to the school the student is attending. The SACQ was administered to a randomly selected sample of 250 first and second- generation freshman students. The training of family day care providers has been piecemeal, informal and of questionable quality. Their training has not been a serious issue because of the widely held view that family day care is an extension of the 'mothering' skills of the provider. This view of family day care as a 'home away from home' and the perception that it is essentially an extension of the normal domestic duties of women has mitigated against the development of formalised training. Retirement preparation includes planning for financial security, health maintenance, a social network, and meaningful activities.
Retirement is defined as partial or complete withdrawal from career work accompanied by a change in the sources and amount of income. Most persons choose to retire today between the ages of 62 and 66 since eligibility for partial Social Security benefits begins at age 62 with full benefits available by age 65.
