The dissertation is one of the most crucial tasks that a student does in his/her academic years. This is why professional dissertation editors suggest checking it carefully. A dissertation’s quality can improve largely if it is edited properly. However, it requires constant practice to acquire great editing skills. However, if one follows a few techniques, he/she can do a pretty good job at editing a copy.
Here is a list of the most effective techniques one can use to edit a dissertation:

Mechatronics Education At Kettering University: Development Of Learning- Specific Hardware And Software, Jeffrey Hargrove, Theodore J. Stokes

Jeffrey Hargrove

A series of learning-specific electronic circuit boards and associated software has been developed to support mechatronics education in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kettering University. The boards are designed to interface to the Toshiba TLCS-900H Microprocessor Trainer and Evaluation Board. The purpose of these boards is to provide mechanical engineering students of mechatronics with robust hardware that readily permits interfacing of sensors and actuators to microcontrollers used in mechatronic applications. Further, the boards feature signal conditioning circuits for use in conjunction with sensors, and driver circuits for operating high-current actuating devices. Supporting software has been written to permit ready use …

Development And Implementation Of Mechatronics Education At Kettering University, Jeffrey Hargrove

Jeffrey Hargrove

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Kettering University has completed development of a significant new component of education in mechatronics. The work began in the fall of 1997 as the principal part of an award for “Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement” by the Division of Undergraduate Education of the National Science Foundation. It has culminated with the successful implementation of two undergraduate courses in mechatronics, two mechatronics laboratories and a website to support the educational endeavors of the mechatronics students. As will be described in this paper, the first course and its laboratory exercises are designed specifically to provide the students with …

Epistemic Complexity In Adolescent Writing, Kristen Campbell Wilcox, Fang Yu, Marc Nachowitz Sep 2019

Epistemic Complexity In Adolescent Writing, Kristen Campbell Wilcox, Fang Yu, Marc Nachowitz

Kristen Campbell Wilcox

Increasing attention has been paid in recent years to the ways writing may engage adolescents in higher levels of epistemic complexity (i.e., postulating causes, reasons and other relations or theories related to scientific phenomena), yet in secondary science classrooms, writing has primarily been used for assessing students' content knowledge. Embedded in a larger national study of secondary writing in the United States, this study investigated the qualities of science writing samples collected from 33 adolescents attending schools identified for exemplary writing performance. We asked: How is epistemic complexity reflected in adolescents' writing?; How does the level of epistemic complexity differ …

Adolescents’ Writing In The Content Areas: National Study Results, Kristen Campbell Wilcox, Jill V. Jeffery Sep 2019

Adolescents’ Writing In The Content Areas: National Study Results, Kristen Campbell Wilcox, Jill V. Jeffery

Kristen Campbell Wilcox

While many adolescents in US school settings do not achieve basic levels of writing proficiency, new standards and assessments hold all students, regardless of academic performance history and language background, to higher standards for disciplinary writing. In response to calls for research that can characterize a range of adolescents’ writing experiences, this study investigated the amount and kinds of writing adolescents with different academic performance histories and language backgrounds produced in math, science, social studies, and English language arts classes in schools with local reputations of excellence. By applying categories of type and length, we analyzed the writing of 66 …

Advisor: James Valadez, Ph. D.

Secondary school principals increasingly face the challenge of working in the space between the existing, obsolete paradigm of education (standardized testing and accountability) and the paradigm that has yet to come into existence (i.e., a radically different way of thinking about education as a social system).  Principals continue to be held accountable for increasing student achievement (based on continued use of assessment tools that are inadequate to prepare students …

Teacher And Students' Perceptions Of A Modified Inclusion Classroom Environment, Elizabeth Kirby Fullerton Ph.D., Caroline Guardino Ph.D. Aug 2019

Teacher And Students' Perceptions Of A Modified Inclusion Classroom Environment, Elizabeth Kirby Fullerton Ph.D., Caroline Guardino Ph.D.

Caroline Guardino

The purpose of this study was to examine how modifying the inclusion classroom impacts teacher and students’ perceptions of their learning environment. Prior to intervention the teacher was interviewed providing information about her preferred modifications. Following the intervention the teacher completed a rating scale and a post interview. The students completed a classroom environment student survey (CESS), to assess their perceptions of the classroom before, during, and after modifications were made. Twenty fourth grade students, as well as their teacher participated in the study. Implications for practitioners and researchers are discussed.

Process Over Product: It's More Than An Equation, Lorraine Day, Derek Hurrell Aug 2019

Process Over Product: It's More Than An Equation, Lorraine Day, Derek Hurrell

Derek Hurrell

Developing number and algebra together provide opportunities for searching for patterns, conjecturing, justifying, and generalising mathematical relationships. It allows the focus to be on the process of mathematics and noticing the structure of arithmetic, rather than the product of arriving at a correct answer. Two of the big ideas in mathematics are multiplicative thinking and algebraic reasoning. By noticing the structure of multiplicative situations, students will be in a position to reason algebraically, and the process of reasoning algebraically will allow students to appreciate the value of thinking multiplicatively rather than additively.

Changes In Student Definitions Of De-Escalation In Professional Peace Officer Education, Pat Nelson Jun 2019

Changes In Student Definitions Of De-Escalation In Professional Peace Officer Education, Pat Nelson

Pat Nelson, Ph.D.

Since the release of the 21st century policing report in the United States, the techniques of de-escalation have received a lot of attention and focus in political systems, policy changes, and the media. This research surveyed professional peace officer education university students on their definition of de-escalation and the techniques associated with de-escalation before specific communications coursework was completed and then after the coursework was completed. This research has found that clearly defining de-escalation and emphasizing the broad range of techniques available enhances the students' understanding and application of proper de-escalation.

Educating The Space Scientists At Embry-Riddle Through Design, Build And Fly Rocketry Experience, Pedro Llanos, Robert E. Haley, Sathya Gangadharan

Pedro J. Llanos (www.AstronauticsLlanos.com)

Practical experience for students in rockets and payloads is very valuable in the space industry, and it is something that would give them an advantage over other applicants. Students in Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Payload and Integration class were given the opportunity to build a level 1 rocket and gain experience developing, testing, and integrating payloads into a rocket. The students were given the tasks to come up with an idea for a payload, design the payload to fit within the rocket for flight, and assemble and launch the rocket with the payload in the payload bay. The tasks required for …

Educators are amongst a population at risk for exposure to secondary trauma because they have contact with young adults who may have or currently experiencing hardships such as mental health issues, relationship abuse, or financial insecurity. However, despite the vulnerability of educators to secondary trauma, little research has focused on this population or preventative techniques that might mitigate the effects of secondary trauma to educators. A faculty cohort was selected to identify levels of exposure and coping strategies used to navigate classroom and one and one interactions with students. In this presentation participants the results from this semester long faculty …
