The Elida Camel Project: Jisc Design For Learning Start-Up Meeting, Jill Jameson
Jill Jameson
The JISC eLIDA CAMEL Project commenced in May, 2006, as one of the national UK Design for Learning projects funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). The eLIDA CAMEL brought together the pedagogic e-learning practice of the eLISA study skills e-learning project and the work done by the CAMEL JISC infoNet and ALT communities of practice project funded by HEFCE's Leadership, Governance and Management Fund (LGMF).
International Collaboration In Blended Problem-Based Learning, Roisin Donnelly
International Collaboration In Blended Problem-Based Learning, Roisin Donnelly
Conference papers
European education today is characterized by two dominant trends. First, e-learning has made impressive advances in the past five years. Second, European higher education has become increasingly internationalized. Within this, there has been an obvious shift towards more social, collaborative and communal perspectives of learning reported in recent educational research. Various forms of collaborative and inquiry-based learning include the idea that learning should be understood as a combination of participation, knowledge creation and internal processes. This paper discusses the blending of e-learning and problem-based learning (PBL), based on these observations and as a comprehensive approach encompassing the learning environment, curriculum, …

This publication is an attempt to capture the evolution of distributed higher education over the last decade by tracing the applications of new technologies funded by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). As FIPSE surveyed the current state of distance/distributed education, there existed an opportunity to help post econdary education make the transition to this new generation of distance education made possible by the explosive growth of the Internet and other new technologies. These technologies created the potential for students to access learning that was interactive, customized, and self-paced; to more easily merge lifelong learning with the …
E-Learning Enhances Both Student Achievement And Career Change Options, Rochelle P. Ripple
E-Learning Enhances Both Student Achievement And Career Change Options, Rochelle P. Ripple
Perspectives In Learning
It seems as if everyone is using e-learning (online learning) these days. There are many options available, including self-paced courses, skills-based courses, virtual classrooms (and their cousins, live web seminars), web-enhanced courses, and asynchronous courses. There is a plethora of technological methods that can be utilized for course delivery. Which of these technologies and methods of use will maximize e-learning’s effectiveness? In other words, for the university, the instructor and students, which seems to work the best? In a nutshell - all of them. The beauty of e-learning is that there are so many options that can be tailored to …

The Effect Of Social Presence On Teacher Technology Acceptance, Continuance Intention, And Performance In An Online Teacher Professional Development Course, Jo Smith
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine if the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) could explain the relationship between teacher's acceptance of an online teacher professional development course and their continuance intentions regarding online teacher professional development (oTPD). This study focused on the perceptions of the teachers as opposed to the design or implementation of oTPD. The participants (N=517) were mostly teachers (88.8%) enrolled in a statewide online course to provide classroom teachers with the latest knowledge of research-based instructional reading strategies. The course was offered over a 10-14 week period during the Spring 2006 semester through a public state …
Beyond Marks And Measurement: Developing Dynamic And Authentic Forms Of E-Assessment, Catherine E Mcloughlin, Joseph Luca
Beyond Marks And Measurement: Developing Dynamic And Authentic Forms Of E-Assessment, Catherine E Mcloughlin, Joseph Luca
Research outputs pre 2011
E-learning has transformed both pedagogy and learning environments and a new generation of learners has emerged, who require immediacy, connection and personalised opportunities for both formal and informal learning. Instead of using narrowly defined learning outcomes tested by examinations, social software tools offer scope for social connection and self-governed assessment tasks such as critical inquiry, collaboration and team work, giving learners multiple channels of expression, and perspective taking. While social software tools can be closely inter-woven with learning management systems, and be used to scaffold authentic tasks for assessment, there remain design and pedagogical challenges. The paper critiques current practice …
Can Blending Face-To-Face Teaching With E-Learning Support The Development Of Phase 4 Apprentices In Mathematics: A Formative Evaluation Research Study, Peter Hinch
Theses
This thesis is a formative evaluation research study_ Its purpose is to establish if
blending face--to-face and e-leaming delivery methods can support the development of
Phase 4 apprentice plumbers in mathematics in the Department of Construction Skills in
the Technologicl University Dublin. The study also included the design, development
and evaluation of a mathematics web site called Plumatics 4 U which is grounded in
established theoretical criteria for effective blended delivery within third level
education. This web site is currently in use by Phase 4 apprentice plumbers and is
delivered through WebCT. The CD accompanying this thesis contains a short …
