Facilitating change in learning organizations must be approached from a multitude of perspectives. Students are often ignored and uninvolved in improvement efforts. As key participants in schooling practices, students should be involved in change processes. Students can take an active role in developing skills and knowledge to help them thrive in learning environments. This presentation focuses on how students can be supported to develop a growth mindset through a model that could work in multiple learning contexts.

Writing effective and well-designed learning objectives is a necessary skill in structuring teaching curriculum. Learning objectives are clearly written, specific statements of observable learner behavior or action that can be measured upon completion of an educational activity. They are the foundation for instructional alignment whereby the learning objectives, assessment tools, and instructional methods mutually support the desired learning outcome. This poster describes the essential components of a learning objective and provides practical tips on writing well-defined learning objectives.

Problem

High school graduation rates have improved over the last decade. However, approximately one-fourth of U.S. high school students still do not graduate within four years. The rates are higher especially among minority and low socioeconomic status students, including students with special needs and English Language Learners. More ninth graders fail than any other grade in high school. A disproportionate number of students held back in ninth grade subsequently drop out. Students who do not complete high school face significant social, financial, and health challenges. Programs have been developed to address this need. One of those is the Accelerated Academic …
