Black Student Leaders’ Race-Conscious Engagement: Contextualizing Racial Ideology In The Current Era Of Resistance, Veronica A. Jones

Black youth of the current generation are creating new definitions of engagement that vary from the nostalgic reverence to the activism of Black student leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. Because today’s student leaders are engaged in navigating predominantly White institution (PWI) norms, this research sought to contextualize the racial attitudes of Black student leaders through race-conscious engagement. While some Black students may not function under an activist label, they are nevertheless committed to social change and realize their involvement through a salient Black identity. Cultivating Resilience And Resistance In Trump’S America: Employing Critical Hope As A Framework In Lgbtq+ Centers, Ashley S. Boyd, Matthew S. Jeffries

President Trump and his administration have continually repealed and replaced policies targeting the most vulnerable populations living in the United States, and in particular, LGBTQ+ individuals. Collegiate LGBTQ+ centers must respond to cultivate resilience and resistance in queer college students. The authors posit that critical hope is a useful framework for LGBTQ+ centers to cultivate resilience and resistance in their students. Critical hope, originally proposed by Duncan-Andrade (2009), rejects hope that does not critically examine what is happening and but rather, permits inequity to continue. Effects Of Isokinetic Eccentric Versus Traditional Lower Body Multiple-Joint Resistance Training On Muscle Function In Recreationally Trained College-Aged Adults, Joshua P. Gordon

Purpose: Early adaptations of eccentric training show several advantages over concentric training. The purpose of this study was to quantify the effects of 4 weeks of multi-joint eccentric training versus traditional leg press training on muscle strength, rate of torque development (RTD; rapid strength) and jump and sprint performance adaptations.

Methods: Twenty-six resistance trained college-aged men and women performed either an eccentric or a traditional (control) resistance training program twice per week for 4 weeks. Police departments are adopting the body-worn camera as an important tool in the restoration of trust and accountability for police officers. Although body-worn cameras can be beneficial to their work, police officers might resist the use of cameras. The purpose of the current study was to examine whether experiences with technology or the perceived usefulness of body-worn cameras predict resistance to the cameras in order to determine where resistance to body-worn cameras possibly exists. The researchers aim to present the state of education after the Arab Spring revolutions and compare it with what was before these revolutions. The book has been divided into three main sections. This article focuses on breeding resistant strawberries to the fungus Verticillium dahliae, common name Verticillium wilt. This is a serious fungal disease that can result in a loss of 50% or more of a strawberry harvest when grown in infested soil. The main goal is to provide an example of how a cultivar can be made more resistant to a plant pathogen with the use of plant breeding methods.

Despite repeated pleas for diversifying a predominantly White U.S. teacher workforce, a significant teacher diversity gap persists in almost every state of the country (Boser, 2014). Teachers of Color who enter the profession with commitments to social justice, in particular, face an array of racist structural and interpersonal challenges often leading to their burnout and in some cases push out from the field (Kohli & Pizarro, 2016). The purpose of this dissertation was determining influences behind identity formation, social reproduction, and resistance of students residing in a local manufactured home community and attending a suburban majority White, middle-and upper-middle class middle school. Narratives from participants were included to assist in disseminating intersecting lives of students (the trailer park kids) with their parents and teachers. This Dissertation is a study of rhetoric and composition instructors around the country who use intersectional pedagogy as a way to introduce students to issues of class, race, sexuality, and gender in order to work toward a more just society. Instructors using this approach often encounter resistance from students and administrators, and this project will help instructors respond to this resistance in thoughtful, rather than reactionary, ways.
