Research on parole in the United States has primarily followed a deterministic approach, favoring an examination of variables contributing to release. However, a great deal of prior research neglects a central aspect of the parole process: mainly the hearing. Adopting an ethnographically informed conversation analytic approach, this article addresses one tactic offenders utilize to appeal to a state parole board for release– claiming rehabilitated status. Offenders appealing for parole attempt to establish, in a performative space, their identity as rehabilitated. Cancer rehabilitation increases functional capacity (FC) and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Exercise monitoring enhances program safety and effectiveness. Advanced monitoring technology and devices may further enhance program quality and integrity. PURPOSE: Examine the use of the Zephyr BioHarness in monitoring and analyzing physiological parameters during a 12-week cancer rehabilitation program. METHODS: Oklahoma cancer survivors (CS) and caregivers (CG) are recruited to participate in the OBU CARES Program, an evidence-based cancer rehabilitation program designed to promote healthy lifestyles, increase FC, and enhance HRQOL. Correctional practices in New York State largely support a punishment paradigm, a framework in which men and women are incarcerated to suffer punition, with little consideration given to understanding the causes of criminality or means to rehabilitate the offender. The growing awareness of correctional failures have necessitated efforts to re-evaluate the justice system, with no consensus regarding which rehabilitative methods work. Correctional philosophy and practice provides few substantive opportunities for transformative rehabilitation; therapeutic peer programming to address deficiencies in pro-normative socialization and provide peer support are virtually nonexistent.
