The Children Keep Reminding Us: One School's Experience After 9/11, Kate Delacorte

This essay reflects on the experience of a new preschool that was located a few blocks away from the World Trade Center and had not yet opened at the time of September 11. After the event, the school held meetings with teachers, parents, and their children. The conversations highlighted the overwhelming difference between the needs of the parents and the needs of the children. Through sharing of fears, experiences, and emotions, the new community grew closer.

Abstract:

This study aimed to detect the degree of awareness of parents in the United Arab Emirates of their children's language-building readiness strategies and the degree of practicing them from their perspectives and its relationship with the parents' educational qualification and economic situation. What Do Parents Really Want? Parent Perspectives On Gifted Education, Ryan Mccreary

In this research study, the correlation between the strategies that previous research had indicated as effective for gifted education and the programming sought by parents of gifted children was examined. Survey results and interviews with parents revealed several strategies that parents wanted to be implemented in gifted education as well as powerful practices that would enhance gifted education if implemented by school leaders. The problem of underachievement among gifted students is also discussed as well as strategies to reverse it.
