Punitive consequences are extensively utilized when dealing with school discipline. Recently, positive approaches to discipline, such as restorative practices, have been implemented in many schools to address school discipline concerns and to improve school climate. Restorative practices is a philosophy that focuses on building positive relationships by changing mindsets. This study took place in a large mid-atlantic urban school district. This qualitative case study explored the perceptions and practices of three teachers who teach social justice concepts in kindergarten and 2nd-grade classrooms in an urban school district in the Northwest region of the United States. This quantitative study focused on examining the relationship between teacher self-efficacy and their use of writing practices in teaching writing. Participants included elementary kindergarten through fifth grade teachers in a large school district in northeastern United States. The purpose of this study was to examine if a relationship existed between metacognitive instruction and students’ growth rate for fluency, accuracy, self-correction rates, and comprehension in reading.
