Ouachita Honors Alumni Milestone And Worthy Ouachitonian Award Recipients, Trennis Henderson

Honoring its seventh class of Ouachita Alumni Milestone Awards recipients, Ouachita Baptist University recognized outstanding graduates from the classes of 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996 and 2006 at halftime of the Homecoming football game Oct. 15. The alumni honorees were selected by a committee of Ouachita faculty and staff to represent their milestone reunion classes.

This year’s Homecoming festivities also included the presentation of a Worthy Ouachitonian Award by Ouachita President Ben Sells.

Gathering for Ouachita Baptist University’s annual Faculty/Staff Banquet, the university recently honored 35 faculty and staff members who have served a combined total of 685 years at Ouachita. Among the longtime faculty and staff members honored, Dr. Ray Granade and Dr. Joe Jeffers were recognized for 45 years of service each.

Ouachita Baptist University recently was named an Exercise is Medicine Silver Level Campus for its commitment to creating a culture of wellness on campus. It is the only university in the state and one of only 15 universities in the nation to achieve this honor for 2016.

Ouachita’s Exercise is Medicine efforts are coordinated through its Department of Kinesiology and Leisure Studies. Dr. Terry DeWitt, chair of the department, accepted OBU’s recognition at the annual EIM meeting in Boston in June.

A total of 353 students at Ouachita Baptist University were named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2016 semester. The students will receive a certificate of recognition from Ouachita and will be included in the “National Dean’s List” for 2015-16.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must compile at least a 3.5 grade point average and be classified as a full-time student, with a minimum of 12 academic hours.

Honoring diverse communications projects produced over the past year, Ouachita’s Office of Communications staff recently earned 11 state and national awards from three professional communications organizations.

This year’s honors included seven national awards from Baptist Communicators Association and one from Collegiate Advertising Awards as well as three statewide awards from the Arkansas chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.

Ouachita Baptist University students and faculty earned numerous top honors at the recent Alpha Chi national honor society convention in Alexandria, Va. An OBU student research team won the Collaborative Research Award, the largest prize of the convention, for the second consecutive year. Junior Jace Bradshaw earned one of two national Edwin W. Gaston, Jr. Scholarships for undergraduate research as well as the Region II Scholarship and was elected as a Region II student delegate to the national council. Ouachita Baptist University’s Elrod Center for Family and Community honored Rachel Wicker with the Cargill Leadership Fund Award at its annual University Community Service Awards banquet April 19. Many Ouachita students, faculty and staff were also commended for their service and community leadership during the past year.
