A panel representing both secondary and higher education discussed the process utilized in Central Ohio through the HS-IHE Alignment Grant to align high school and college curricula and the agreed upon strategies to promote alignment. In 2008, the non-profit college access organization, A Call to College, researched the feasibility of extending their services to elementary and middle school students in their partner district, Newark City Schools. This investigation led to a phased, 4-year process to build the PEAK (Providing Early Awareness and Knowledge) Program. PEAK currently provides activity-based programming and specially designed lesson plans for every 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th grader in the district - over 2000 students from 82 classrooms in 11 different buildings.
