Implementation Through Innovation: A Literature-Based Analysis Of The Tuning Project, Krisztián Pálvölgyi

Higher Learning Research Communications

Tuning Educational Structures in Europe is perhaps the most important higher education innovation platform nowadays. The main objective of the Tuning Project is to develop a tangible approach to implement the action lines of the Bologna Process; thus, implementation and innovation are closely linked in Tuning. However, during its development, Tuning has evolved into a complex, multilevel policy implementation toolset with a worldwide significance. The purpose of this article is to present the complex nature of the Tuning Project, the environment and dynamics of its development, and the mechanisms of its operation from a multilevel implementation perspective, through a literature-review-based …

Reengineering Hospital Systems, Uche Nwabueze Oct 2011

Reengineering Hospital Systems, Uche Nwabueze

Administrative Issues Journal

The paper suggests that effective systems implementation of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is only possible in hospital organizations capable of building open, honest, and lasting relationship with employees, suppliers, customers, and business partners. The paper suggests that the use of Inter-relationship management is the most effective approach for reengineering. It is noted that interrelationship management is not customer relationship management (CRM), nor is it relationship marketing (RM); it is about managerial governance involving three inter-related parts: process planning, process improvement, and process redesign.

Response-To-Intervention: Understanding General Education Teacher Knowledge And Implementation, Elissa M. Benjamin Aug 2011

Response-To-Intervention: Understanding General Education Teacher Knowledge And Implementation, Elissa M. Benjamin

Educational Policy Studies Dissertations

The new IDEIA (2004) mandates regarding the implementation of Response-to-Intervention (RtI) present challenges for general education teachers. The law dictates the implementation of Response-to-Intervention, which requires the application of a pyramid of interventions for students failing to make adequate yearly progress in response to general education programs. Response-to-Intervention regulations redefine general education teacher roles, increase responsibilities regarding instructional interventions for at-risk learners, and change the process used to determine qualification for specific learning disability (SLD).

A qualitative case study investigates how three general educators in a rural public elementary school understand and implement Response-to-Intervention policy. The study also examines teacher …

Professions, Organizations And Institutions: Tenure Systems In Colleges And Universities, Sangchan Park, Wesley D. Sine, Pamela S. Tolbert May 2011

Professions, Organizations And Institutions: Tenure Systems In Colleges And Universities, Sangchan Park, Wesley D. Sine, Pamela S. Tolbert

Pamela S Tolbert

A common strategy used by professions to support claims of workplace jurisdiction involves the institutionalization of professionally-endorsed formal structures, yet both theory and research suggest that ensuring the implementation of institutionalized structures after formal adoption can be problematic. This study investigates the influence of organizational characteristics on the implementation of one professionally-created institution in higher education organizations, tenure systems for faculty employment. Our results suggest that implementation of tenure systems is negatively affected by internal resource pressures, but positively affected by countervailing pressures from professionally-linked constituents. The results also suggest self-limiting aspects of the use of tenure systems.

Exploring A Paperless Business Administrative System (Bas) Implementation In A K-12 School, Marwan M. Issa Mar 2011

Exploring A Paperless Business Administrative System (Bas) Implementation In A K-12 School, Marwan M. Issa

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

The primary purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate how a paperless BAS can affect the overall performance of a school’s administrative activities. The research included direct observation, survey questionnaires, document review, and both structured and unstructured interviews.

The selected school, a K-12 charter school, was an ideal candidate for this study as it allowed unrestricted access. The effects of the move to a paperless BAS were overwhelmingly positive. These effects included enabling employees to complete their resource requests more speedily and accurately. The implementation also incorporated “smart” forms that did not allow users to submit incomplete forms. Employees …

Peer-Led Transition Strategies And The First Year Experience - Implementation, Implications And Insights, Sarah E. O'Shea, Pauline Lysaght

Faculty of Education - Papers (Archive)

This presentation provides an overview of a peer-led transition strategy targeted at equity groups that the program chair has been involved in implementing at two separate universities. The difference between this and other programs is that this strategy is grounded within the actual experience of students, who design, develop and facilitate a program that provides authentic insight into the culture and environment of university life. Participants will hear how program was introduced, suggestions around initiation and feedback from program participants.

A Survey Of Teacher's Beliefs Regarding The Importance And Implementation Of Formative Assessment, Diane Lawrence Lowry

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This quantitative study examined teachers' beliefs of the importance and implementation of formative assessment in one north Mississippi school district. There is a limited amount of research related to teachers' beliefs of formative assessment. Heritage, Kim, Vendlinski, and Herman (2009) defined formative assessment as a planned process during instruction. This process involves collecting information throughout instruction and providing feedback to the student and the teacher and results in changes to instruction to meet the needs of the learner. The purpose of this study was to determine the mean scores, standard deviations, and percentages of teachers' responses to survey items concerning …

School-Wide Pbs: The Link Between Action Planning And Outcomes, Stephanie Angelique Martinez Jan 2011

School-Wide Pbs: The Link Between Action Planning And Outcomes, Stephanie Angelique Martinez

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Most school based initiatives are not implemented long-term and do not reach sustainability (McDermott, 2000; Mirel, 1994; Rice & Malen, 2003). Schools are implementing School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) as an initiative to target social emotional development and behavior. Schools that have implemented SWPBS have experienced decreases in rate of Office Discipline Referrals (ODR), In-School Suspension (ISS) and Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) (e.g. Bohanon et al., 2006; Childs et al., 2009; Lassen et al., 2006). Research has also shown that schools that implement with a higher degree of fidelity have better outcomes (Childs et al., 2009; Florida's Positive Behavior Support Project, …
