E-Portfolios: Their Impact On Preservice Teachers' Self-Directed Learning And Computer Technology Skills, Yufang Carole Huang

Students in the Teacher Education Program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis have to complete their professional E-portfolios to be certified for the program. An E-portfolio demonstrates a future teacher¿s knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired through teaching and learning. Five qualitative case studies were investigated to understand how E-portfolios impact preservice teachers¿ self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) and computer technology skills (CTS). Data were gathered from the preservice teachers¿ pre- and post-questionnaires, interviews, observations, and their completed E-portfolios. Situating teacher self-disclosure within a curriculum and instruction context, this research explored preservice and K-12 inservice teachers' perceptions of appropriateness of teacher self-disclosure and its teaching effectiveness as a component of the informal curriculum as well as an instructional tool. Amistades: The Development Of Relationships Between Preservice Teachers And Latino Families, John A. Sutterby, Renee Rubin, Michelle Abrego

Organization and School Leadership Faculty Publications and Presentations

Preservice teachers from a Hispanic-serving university and Latino families reflected on their interactions during an after-school children’s tutoring program conducted at an elementary school. This paper focuses on issues that both preservice teachers and families found important to communication and relationship building. These issues were valuing what families bring to the educational process, congruency in the interpretation of teacher roles, and the importance of language to communication and relationship building.
