A study examined customer satisfaction with an online charter school and compared the performance of this online charter school with a similar school as well as the overall state average. Findings revealed that overall, the constituents involved in the online charter school were satisfied with the school's educational service and, although students at the charter school performed lower than the state average of all schools, they performed better when compared to a similar school as defined by the state board of education.

During the past five years, virtual schools in the United States have gained popularity and acceptance as viable alternatives to the traditional school system through provisions for charter schools under Title V, Part B, Subpart 1 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. This paper describes the existing federal policies that are driving the online virtual school movement, and how one state, Nevada, has set forth and interpreted specific policies regarding online distance education. Advantages And Objections To Charter Schools: Are These Schools Of Value As Schools Of Choice, Kenneth E. Williams

This researcher examined the value of charter schools as viable alternatives to public schools and as schools of choice. A PowerPoint presentation was created in which the researcher analyzes the debate on schools of choice and the issuing authority for charter schools. Highlights of the research include discussions on the advantages of charter schools in relation to: a) students with learning disabilities, b) teachers in charter schools, and c) parental satisfaction. The researcher responds to the most frequently voiced arguments against charter schools and urges support for charter school legislation in states where charter schools are not operating.
