Deconstructing Heterosexual Privilege With New Science Metaphors, Tonette S. Rocco, Suzanne J. Gallagher
Deconstructing Heterosexual Privilege With New Science Metaphors, Tonette S. Rocco, Suzanne J. Gallagher
Adult Education Research Conference
The purpose of the paper is to deconstruct heterosexual privilege in adult education through exploring metaphors in quantum physics and ecology. Binary heterosexist boundaries are re-envisioned and alternative adult learning and education processes are suggested.

Using Student Generated Qualitative Ecological Models, J. Scott Blackwood, Marion Dresner, Hang-Kwang Luh
Using Student Generated Qualitative Ecological Models, J. Scott Blackwood, Marion Dresner, Hang-Kwang Luh
Environmental Science and Management Faculty Publications and Presentations
In this activity, students construct qualitative models of an ecosystem and use the models to gain a better understanding of direct and indirect ecological interactions. Qualitative modeling is described for use in two procedures, each with different educational goals and student backgrounds in mind. Part 1 is designed with the non-major or beginning ecology student in mind, and is intended both to improve student understanding of the ecosystem of interest and to provide a framework for the instructor to assess student learning. Part 2 is designed for more advanced students of ecology and involves the use of modeling software (POWERPLAY) …

LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Birds serve as an excellent group of organisms from which to introduce the study of ecology, being of inherent aesthetic interest to many otherwise uninterested in science, and are also ubiquitous in the immediate environment of many students. By extension, images of birds might serve as a valuable resource for the ecology educator, and bird artists – as a subset of ecologists - might provide useful models for expertise in ecology. This study examines the potential contributions of bird artists and bird art to education in ecology at the high school and college level. Eight contemporary bird artists were interviewed …
