Environmental Education (EE) has become increasingly important in Australian public and governmental discourse in the past decade. In its most recent national environmental education statement (2005: 7) the Department of Environment and Heritage lays out a new model of sustainability education that is “about,” “in,” and “for” the environment. This paper will be a look at adult women’s literacy specifically in Ngaoundéré, Adamaoua, Cameroon. I will begin by placing Cameroon’s illiteracy rates into a global context. I will then define what literacy is, why it is essential to development, how it benefits women particularly, and what women are affected and why. The migration of people is a prominent issue in Samoa. According to statistics, Samoa has a high emigration rate compounded with a small yet significant brain drain (Docqueir and Marfouk 2006: 174, 188). The current study was conducted to investigate the effects of oral instruction and teaching with systematic phonemic awareness at the Operation Restoration Christian School of Trench Town, Jamaica. To do this, the researcher taught a class of five low level readers, using teaching methodology provided by the Sadlier Phonics Teacher’s Manual and outside literature concerning phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle. For a five week, with a total of 15 days, student progress was monitored using daily observational notes and through a comparison of test results conducted at the beginning and the end of the research period. The region once known as Yugoslavia has experienced periods of assimilation and peaceful coexistence as well as ethnic hatred and aggression. Inequalities in access to education, as a result of institutionalized racism and social exclusion, are contributing to the maintenance of a permanent Afro-Brazilian underclass. Beiru, a community that sits on the periphery of Salvador, Bahia is an example of what the results of this physical and social marginalization is doing to Afro-Brazilian communities all over the Northeast.
