The writer considers the courses that he teaches as an educational technologist and teacher educator in relation to the deployment of a governmental discourse on neoliberalism. He considers educational technology and neoliberalism; the American technological sublime, which conflates technological invention with progress and imbues certain technologies with moral values; neoliberalism as a form of governmental rationality; neoliberalism, freedom, and educational technology; and the Society for Technology in Education's National Educational Technology Standards project, which reflects the emergence of neoliberalism and the standards movement in education in the 1980s.
