From Literacy Methods Classes To The Real World: Experiences Of Pre-Service Teachers, Francesca Pomerantz, Michelle Pierce

Pomerantz and Pierce conduct a study to compare the approaches and methods recommended in the literacy courses that were taught to the approaches and methods employed by students during the student teaching practicum and their first year as a classroom teacher. Results capture the developing belief systems of preservice teachers as they ventured from methods classes into the real world of classroom instruction.

If we were to take a poll asking people whether they wou]d vote for or against morality, one would expect a rather overwhelming endorsement. There is little disagreement that people should behave morally, should respect moral rules and should be concerned about justice and responsibility (Berkowitz & Oser, 1985, p. 1 ). Under the provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) all instructional paraprofessionals working in a program supported under Title I, Part A, are required to meet the federal definition of being highly qualified by the end of the 2005-2006 school year. In meeting the NCLB requirements, the capacity to support teaching and learning activities in the content areas must be demonstrated.
