The case organization used in this study is a result of various acquisitions over the past ten years. The most recent acquisition occurred a year and a half ago. While the growth has added much to the organization, it has also had a tremendous effect on the organization's greatest asset - its people. This effect is mostly the result of communication in the organization, leadership and various cultures coming together. The purpose of this paper was to define WLB, to determine if there is a difference between the US and Canada in terms of Work-Life Balance and Workaholism, and to make recommendations to organizations about WLB. First the history of both concepts including previous research was reviewed. The results from this study were presented in a format that examines what past research says on the subject. Do They Have The Smarts That Count?: Emotional Intelligence And Career Success Among The Highly Intelligent., Ryan Witte

The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between emotional intelligence (EI) and career success in a population with an intelligence quotient (IQ) in the ninety-fifth percentile. This study used an online survey to measure career success and an online test to measure emotional intelligence among a sample with IQs in the ninety-fifth percentile. Career success was measured with both objective and subjective questions. The subjective measure used was a five question five-point scale developed by Greenhaus, Parasuraman, and Wormley (1990). Many organizations desire to become High Performing Organizations (HPOs) but are unable to do so. The commitment to be an HPO requires imagination and long term strategic interventions. These interventions range from a concern with productivity and people's satisfaction to organization revitalizations. This process of becoming an HPO requires a fundamental change in an organization's culture and values. HPOs can be viewed as the integration of people, product/services, and resources. To have a balanced combination, the above basic elements must be in place.
