The primary purpose of this research was to conduct a systematic study that investigated ways other than awarding certificates of completion to determine the effectiveness of community colleges' occupational-technical certificate programs. These programs are designed to provide students with the skills necessary to enter the workforce or receive promotions in existing employment, and they attract students whose primary goals are to gain the skills necessary to be more productive workers.

The Department of Defense (DOD) has placed a great deal of importance on training and education, throughout all areas of infrastructure development and force implementation. A more knowledgeable operating unit, in any situation, is consistently the deciding factor for success. The United States Air Force, too, has emphasized this ideal and sought to employ those persons most qualified for the required task. The purpose of this project was to develop a model Marketing Education/Store Management program for Klahowya Secondary School. The model program was designed for implementation with second year (grades 11-12) marketing education students at Klahowya Secondary School, Central Kitsap School District, Silverdale, Washington. To accomplish this purpose a review of literature was conducted. Additionally, related information and materials from selected sources were obtained and analyzed, including a survey that was sent to marketing education teachers in the State of Washington.

A guide for implementing the foundation teaching academy course Careers in Education was developed and submitted for approval at Auburn High School. The Careers in Education Resource Guide was the accumulation of information to assist Family and Consumer Science teachers with the implementation of the first career academy offered at Auburn High School. This study concerns an evaluation of a community college support services program. The study participants included 58 female CalWORKS students. Data was gathered from a self-administered survey questionnaire designed specifically for this study to gather student's level of satisfaction with program services. Practice, policy and research implications were discussed.

Bag-valve mask (BVM) ventilation maintains a patient's oxygenation and ventilation until a more definitive artificial airway can be established. In the prehospital setting of a traffic collision or medical aid scene this is performed by an Emerency Medical Technician or medical first responder. Few studies have looked at the effectiveness of Bag-valve masks (BVM) or the complication rate of ventilating an unprotected airway. The purpose and goal of this study is to educate both medical first responders and basic emergency medical technicians.

This project developed a course that could be used by any police agency under the training umbrella of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). Specifically, the project was developed to be used by the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department and San Bernardino Valley College working with veteran police officers, police training officers, and police supervisors. The course included information from Josephson's Six Pillars of Character, Vicchio's Five Personality Types Lacking Integrity, and an ethical dilemma exercise.

Periodic assessment of goals is critical to maintaining a successful academic program. Two surveys were designed and distributed to alumni and potential employers of graduates of the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences (CSES) in the summer of 2002 to assess the profitability of advanced degrees in terms of earning potential and to determine sectors of the workforce currently employing department graduates. The CSES Alumni Satisfaction Survey was sent to 792 department alumni, including graduates of the previous Agronomy program as well as the current Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences program.
